Lightbulb cost of electricity to operate a salon?

I know this is sorta vague, but im opening a 9 bed and mystic spray salon and i know there are variables to consider but approximately how much would an electric bill run to operate 9 beds......assuming in summer and air on and all......the more i write this the more insane it sounds. what approximately am i looking at mothly......300 a month. Basically im looking to start from scratch.......any advise or is it hopeless for me? If you could just give me some details of what type of beds you have and how many and annually at what capacity I could do the math....thanks.

Re: cost of electricity to operate a salon?

It depends where you are, what electrical rates are, what month of the year, slow season, busy season....way too many factors involved.

It's all relative, even if it was $5 million dollars a month, that just means your are that busy and making money. The cheaper it is, the more scared you should be. Everyone wants high electrical bills, means they are busy.

But to answer your question, in a big city like Toronto, Canada, you can expect to pay around $500 - $1500 a month depending on the month and how many beds, how busy you are...

Example - Sept, Oct are some of the slowest months, you can expect to pay $500 - $650 a month electrical.

April, May, June are busy, you can expect to pay $1200 - $1500 or more a month on electrical.

If we were paying $300 a month, i'd be crapping my pants because i'd have no customers.

Hope this helps.

Re: cost of electricity to operate a salon?

it will totally depend on how busy you are and how long you A/C runs.

If you are busy, it could be $1000 a month. If you're not busy it could be $300. Moving over 100 people a day will put us above the $700 a mark and during the slow season with little A/C or heat you may be around $300. For a budget purpose I'd guesstimate $400 a month year round. If it goes above that you're probably busy meaning you have income coming in.

It really depends on where you are, the type of weather you have, and the equipment you have. I am in a very warm and humid area. AC is a must for me 300 or more days a year. I have 18 tons of AC. A low bill for me would be in the $600 range and a high of $1700.

Depends on the area.

The scenario mentioned above would cost me $4,000 - $5,000 a month with around 100 people a day. It really is night and day depending on where you live. Yea, I know, talk about highway robbery. Exactly why nobody is opening a small business in many areas.

Re: cost of electricity to operate a salon?

Really depends on who your service provider is.
25 bed store in season $1800
9 bed store $600
18 bed store $800

The latter 2 drop about by $250 in slow season, The big store will be at about $1200

I got a question please =)
even if it's winter do you turn on the heater in the salon ???
i've read in some article that the machine could overheat quicker then usual due to equipment malfunction furthermore anything heat related will definitely speed up the process.

sorry still new to all this =/ it's a learning process hehe
cheers

Re: cost of electricity to operate a salon?

I can't imagine not turning the heat on... I keep it set at 70° - 72°. Large salon, high ceilings... keeps the chill out for us and the clients. If I kept it a toasty 78° or something, I'd be worried at beds adequately cooling down. Brrrrrrrr

Re: cost of electricity to operate a salon?

That is like asking a long-haul driver how much would it cost for a gas on an east-west run.

If you are opening a 9bed salon, and hope to be a success, plan on an electric bill nearing 2K a month...a high bill is indicative of a profitable salon...

WOW..just realized this post is 2 years old...

To answer the question..you are not turning the heat up to 85'..keep it comfortable at 68-72', and all will be fine...yes, heat destroys the beds, which is why adequate AC/ventilation is very important..h

Heat depends on your area. I nevet once in 5 years turned on my heat at either location. Actually didnt even have heat. Colder areas, you would.
