The reason indoor tanning is being taxed is the pharmacutical, cosmetics, and dermatologist industries have lots of influenence on politicians in Washington, DC. They lobbied to have a 5% Botax (tax on elective cosmetic surgery procedures) replaced in the health care bill with the tax on indoor tanning. This "11th hour" move prevented the indoor tanning industry from being able to properly address the issue. It was unwarranted, unfair, and very deceptive.

Time of the year,
Time of the day,
Proximity to Equator,
Yada,
Yada.
