Last night I had a customer come in and I started talking to him. Come to find out he was an independent lobbist. I talked to him about the tan tax. I told him that 60,000 people had sent emails to their senators. He tells me that Va should have 60,000 and every state should have that many or more. Then he tells me that we should have a petition and send it to all yourcongressman. He even emails me a copy of what it should look like.

We need to be proactive not reactive. Tell everyone you know about it and get signitures. Get it to your senators ASAP.



Dear Senator,

We, the undersigned, are writing to you to express our sincere displeasure and our opposition to the 10% excise tax on tanning salons; that was placed in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. If enacted, this will completely defeat one of the main purposes of the bill, as this will place these small businesses in a dire financial situation.

We are in the midst of very important legislation, legislation that will change America and Americans’ for the better. You have voted to support this important legislation, but this tax will hurt not only all of the tanning salons here in the Commonwealth, but also deprive thousands of Virginians the opportunity to not only enjoy, but for some, deprive them of a medical necessity.

This tax needs to be removed from the bill, we strongly encourage you to have this removed, and not vote for the bill if this item remains. Thank you for your time and attention.
