Rep Power: 0 | Buying used beds, which are best? I have 2 level 1 beds and need beds to the highest level including a stand-up bed. Which beds are preferred? Also looking for a spray tan unit. Can't afford a Versaspa, which Mystic is preferred? |

Rep Power: 22 | Re: Buying used beds, which are best? There are currently two major type of tanning technology and one new that has not broken much ground yet. "Regular" tanning beds, those with long fluorescent tubes, are sometimes called low pressure (although thats not very accurate). Then you have "High Pressure" or "HP" tanning beds. These use much more compact lamps that are located in a cartridge about 10" square (designs vary) and produce a tremendous amount of tanning power while reducing the risk of burning. With HP tanning some skin types can start off at the full time. The last and third is LED tanning. These beds simply incorporate LEDs to produce the tanning spectrum. Being an emerging technology you will not hear much about it at this time. You most basic beds for a commercial tanning salon will have 28 to 32 100 watt lamps and a tan time of 15 to 20 minutes. 30 lamps at 20 minutes being most common it seems. This would be your "level 1" From here the beds you choose will generally have more lamps, higher wattage and less tanning time. And that is how you lay out your levels. Levels are used to compare your beds at YOUR salon. But a Level 3 at one salon may be a Level 4 at another - even for the exact same bed. Generally if you have a HP unit it will be your highest level. At my salon we do not use the word "level" and refer to the beds by name. A line up may look like this: 100 watt, 30 lamp, 20 minutes - might have face tanners 100 watt, 42 lamp, 15 minutes - with face tanners 160 watt, 48 lamp, 12 minutes - "big" bed with features like aroma therapy 160 watt, 48 lamp, 10 minutes - stand-up High Pressure bed One thing to know is that the lamps themselves make a HUGE difference in tanning ability. The beds are one thing, but the right lamp is a must.
