Rep Power: 0 | Anyone see GMA this morning?? Good Morning America had a segment today on tanning salons and teens, claiming 89%of tanning salons allow teens to tan twice (6-7x per week) as much as the recommended FDA guidelines(3x week)!! Of course throwing in that ANY exposure to UV Rays which are carcinogenic (like arsenic) guaruntees the development of cancer- not IF but WHEN!! WTF!! On top of that they claimed they made phonecalls all around the country asking how many times teens would be allowed to tan and said salons irresponsibly pushed UNLIMITED tanning minutes...OH MY! Icing on the cake... they reminded us of the study recently done showing a 75% increase in cancers for those that used sunbeds before the age of 30, and suggested bans for tanning under 18. THEN they talked about over-counter sunless products you can get at your local drugstore and slammed the automated booths that deliver DHA in sprayform, reminding that FDA hasn't approved this product for mucas membranes. GREAT! We just can't catch a break! I know this isn't breaking news, but I can't wait for this onslaught of media attention TO GO AWAY!! The ITA did respond, but to the uninformed consumer it's just BLAH, BLAH, BLAH! It's so sad that something as pure, natural and HEALTHY as sunshine is given such a BAD name! |

Rep Power: 22 | Re: Anyone see GMA this morning?? And how many times a week does the FDA recommend smoking? They make it sound like EVERY teen out there tans. Heck, they make is sound like more than half the country tans regularly. The media once again being paid off by big pharma and sunscreen. Its a complete joke what the media is turned into. I miss the days of real journalism.

Rep Power: 28 | Re: Anyone see GMA this morning?? Why is it that everyone in this industry is against federal regulations? The problem with having 50 different set of rules from different states is that a lot is left to faulter. I have no problem with not tanning under 18 and getting rid of unlimiteds if it would add some credability back to the industry as long as the rest of the salons out there were following suit.

Rep Power: 21 | Re: Anyone see GMA this morning?? that is the problem..not every salon follows suit. It also depends on how your state enforces the laws..we have laws in our state regarding teenage tanning, needing a yearly parental consent etc, and so far in the 3 years its been law no inspector has been in the salons to check if they are following law. I hear all the time from parents/teens even.."XYZ salon allowed my daughter to tan without consent!" |

Rep Power: 22 | Re: Anyone see GMA this morning?? Excluding any of these hypothetical cancer links. How hazardous is tanning? By that I mean how many people are hospitalized due to tanning (directly linked) per year? I am guessing there may be some cases of dehydration, associated risk due to prior condition, but what about burns, etc? In the US I am betting cases are very, very low.

Rep Power: 29 | Re: Anyone see GMA this morning?? STOP THINKING. NOW. You should have stopped reading right here: "Good Morning America had a segment today on tanning salons and teens, claiming 89%of tanning salons allow teens to tan twice (6-7x per week) as much as the recommended FDA guidelines(3x week)!! " If these people do not have solid evidence of this other than just guessing THIS IS SLANDER. What FDA guidelines? Based on what tanning bed? Based on what tan time? Based on what skin type? Listen, people need to learn how to pick out a MAD LIB STUDY. (maybe I'll do a couple paragraphs on it). Mad Lib Study is when you can essentially just change out the victims and crimes and industry with basically anything and it pretty much works. Good Morning America had a segment today on SUB SHOPS and teens, claiming 89%of SUB SHOPS allow teens to EAT twice (6-7x per week) as much as the recommended FDA guidelines(3x week)!! Of course throwing in that ANY exposure to FATTY FOODS which are carcinogenic (like arsenic) guarantees the development of cancer- not IF but WHEN!! WTF!! On top of that they claimed they made phone calls all around the country asking how many times teens would be allowed to EAT SUBS and said SUB SHOPS irresponsibly pushed THE 12INCH SUB...OH MY! Wasn't that fun? |
