Psychology of buying I have read a few books this past year on the psychology of buyers. I have implemented a few things and I am amazed at how accurate this science is. For example, just simply rotating products in your store every few months. Things I have had for months are being pointed out as, "Oh you guys have NEW lotions." 99% of people walk to the right when they enter a business so I moved most of our displays over in that direction. I also started to utilize putting products on the shelf in the letter 'H" pattern. So you place your items you want to sell first and foremost in a certain visual pattern that people always use when they look at a shelf. They tend to pass over anything not in that letter H pattern. Anyway, I am just dumbfounded at how well this works. When you read these books you see how and where you go wrong on everything from sign placement to how and why people buy and how things should be placed on the shelf. Anyone ever do this? Anything helps and it is too amazing and funny how well this works. Now I really pay attention at the big chain stores. This was the best of the 3 books I read; http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Why.../9780684849140 Last edited by caribbean tan man; 08-22-2009 at 03:20 PM. Reason: easier to read with spaces.. | |

My husband thinks I'm crazy for reading "work related" things on vacation, but I enjoy it. It gives me more confidence as well as helps me with ideas that I can implement. It also gives me more training so that I can turn around and train my employees. If you liked "Why We Buy", I think you will really like "Getting Into Your Customer's Head" by Kevin Davis. I really enjoyed that one and learned a lot from it as well. Also, any books by Zig Ziglar are great! It amazes me that people put so much time & money into opening a salon and then say that they don't have time or don't feel like they need to continue learning. I have 2 year old twins, 2 salons, 2 houses to keep up (been trying to sell one for over a year) and am active in various organizations and I STILL manage to find time to learn more. Even if you devote 20 minutes a day you will be amazed at what you can learn and how it will improve your business as well as your personal life in the end. Off my soapbox now... ;) |
