Towels Being Bleached...not sure by what!

Hi

New user, and I have to admit I am not in the tanning industry (please don't hate me) but run a bed and breakfast company and am having a problem which I think you may be able to solve for me based on previous threads I have found. I have found that the stone/brown colored towels we provide to clients are fairly regularly getting dyed a pinkish color by clients by accident. I've tried to get the same results by dipping some aftershaves, sunscreen etc on the towels to no avail. The only way I've managed to reproduce it is with bleach which gives a similar but more intense stain. So they are being mildly bleached by something. I've tried using cleaning products without bleach and it's still happened so they aren't just being bleached by them. We've mentioned to a few clients who've had very bad bleaching and they've reported no abnormal behaviour (and I don't think they were just lying to avoid paying for them!). It happens too regularly to be something very ususal (hair dye for example). I know the tanning industry will have a lot of exposure to towel use so has anyone out there seen this effect and worked out what it might be??? Any thoughts much appreciated.

Who's washing them you or your clients? If you have bleach anywhere in the washroom you can quarantee someone will use it when they shouldn't. I keep catching employees washing the black towels with the white ones with bleach..they get pinkish brown spots all over them.

No, we wash them ourselves but it is not a washing issue as they come out of the wash clean, are used by clients and then returned to us for cleaning with the stains/bleaching. Have read a lot on the web about this today - apparently a number of things such as certain hand washes, whitening toothpaste, acne cream can cause this but none seem to apply in this case when things like bath mats are also getting bleached and nothing we provide in the apartment seems to cause it when tested. I'm at a loss!

Totally understand...thanks for trying anyway! Am just hoping someone says something like "I found insect repellant can bleach towels" or something to that effect....something I haven't thought of....

I use 50/50 alchohol with a brown wash cloth to remove overspray from hands, fingernails and toenails. It leaves a pinkish stain on the wrag until washed, then all is good. I wonder if your guests are using a makeup remover, wipe or towlette that contains alchohol?

I did try one aftershave on the towels with no effect but I guess it may not have had alcohol in it.....will try again with an alcohol based product...thanks.
