Can I get some opinions on whether this is normal for a salon?

My BF has been tanning at the same salon for 5 years, without issue. Today, when he came out of the bed, the back of his body was BRIGHT red (far more red than I've ever seen it, and he used to use a Tingle regularly) and he was really uncomfortable. He showed the girl who was working, and she stated that the last person must have used a tingle, and they are supposed to clean the bed differently when that happens, but that she couldn't smell it, so she just cleaned it normally. It was a really odd conversation that didn't make much sense to me.

BF called the owner, and he said that a few days ago, someone used an oil-based lotion that wasn't formulated for indoor tanning, they can't get it off of the bed, and new plexi-glass is on order.

This isn't a proper business practice, is it? Shouldn't they shut the bed down entirely until it's fixed? She mentioned when we went in that every bed was open, so WHY put a customer in one that you know is damaged? The whole thing makes me a bit nervous to even tan there anymore!

This is just tingle left on the bed- if cleaned properly, there would not have been residue left. A disinfectant is just that and does not always remove all traces of tingle. The employee did not put enough muscle into cleaning the unit.

This sounds like a load of c**p.

Ya, that last bit is BS.

But in fairness even I have cleaned a bed very well after a tingle user and then I got the sting. If its a strong tingle its hard to remove. I typically clean the bed three times. Sanitizer, Windex, Sanitizer - but like I said I even got myself with that tingle stuff!

Thanks for responding! I wonder why the owner would say that? His story seemed a lot worse to me than the girl's did!

Anyway, BF just came out of the shower and showed me his tan, he is way darker on the back of his body. Now I wonder which tingle cream it was, haha.

Re: Can I get some opinions on whether this is normal for a salon?

I am pretty sure the bed was sanitized first of all. For example; if you have ever cut onions and/or garlic your hands smell awful. THEN you wash your hands and WHAT do they still smell like..onions or garlic right. Even if you keep washing them the smell is still there. BUT you washed your hands with soap and water right? Does that mean your hands are not clean because the smell is still there...no. They actually make funny products to combat this on your hands. Just like onions and garlic that darn tingle just permeates the pores in acrylics. TRUST me we sanitize the beds. So despite that, there is residual tingle. Most of us do try and do a little something extra like leave the bed cleaner on the acrylic a bit longer. But in a nutshell, I have no doubt that they cleaned with bed cleaner and his bed was sanitized. We provide a small sign that tingle users leave on the bed when they are finished so we can attempt to do something extra but even that is not full proof. Best wishes!

We leave bed cleaner and towels in each room so the customer can clean the bed an extra time if they want to!(yes we clean after each session) My customers love the idea...I even clean the bed again before I tan even if I was the last one to clean it.

BTW...I agree with the others. Sound like tingle lotion left on the bed!
