HVLP GUN TROUBLE?

Hi,

I am using an hvlp gun with a compressor instead of a turbine, as I like to switch between that and my airbrush .

Only problem is, I am finding the hvlp gun is coming out in spots when I spray. (thankfully I haven't been using it on clients)

It's just not going on smoothly at all, does anyone know how I can adjust either my air psi on my compressor or the spray gun to combat this problem?

I've attached a picture of the spray gun.

Thanks in advance for any help

Re: HVLP GUN TROUBLE?

You probably need to setup it up so its slits off into two different lines and regulators.

But I am not sure if that will help. HVLP means high volume low pressure. Its the volume of air you need and less pressure.

I think.... I always did the regular air-brushing, no HVLP guns.

Re: HVLP GUN TROUBLE?

Ah, so do you think reducing my air pressure on my compressor, but letting more of the tan emerge from the gun might help?

I'm not sure how to fix this actually!

I know how to reduce the compressor's pressure, but it's the gun I'm really having trouble with.

I prefer airbrush aswell, but do like to have a choice, I find spray guns can be a bit quicker & make the tan appear darker sometimes aswell.

Re: HVLP GUN TROUBLE?

Well you need the right equipment to run the right gun. I think I will let someone else who knows more about sunless help you out.

Re: HVLP GUN TROUBLE?

You have a gravity fed gun and you can operate a gravity fed gun at a lower psi. I think approx 15 psi.

We have a compressor in the back of the salon. We keep the compressor set at approx 55 psi and our regulator in the front room is set to the needed psi for the gun. Do you have a regulator in your spray room?

The screw knob on the rear of the gun controls your flow. Adjust your psi on the compressor and regulator, then adjust the back of the gun to your comfort.

Re: HVLP GUN TROUBLE?

I've been running mine around 50psi with the spray gun as the lower I put the pressure, the more spotting seems to be happening, but could this just be because I haven't got the flow correct?

What do you mean by a regulator?

The knob on the side effects the way it comes out aswell it goes from wide to narrow on the knob, and the wider (to the left) that I turn it, the more spotting there is aswell!

It just hasn't got that nice even flow that happens with a turbine and I can't seem to adjust it to stop it from spotting when being applied!

Re: HVLP GUN TROUBLE?

Oh and would there be much difference if I was to purchase a lvlp gun instead?

Would this work better with a compressor, the same or worse?

Thanks x

Re: HVLP GUN TROUBLE?

Our compressor is dialed in @ 55 psi.

We also have the regulator in the room to control the psi to the gun. Our gun is siphon fed (different than yours) and we set the gun psi to 30. Even though you are set to a certain psi, when you begin to spray your pressure will decrease. So, our pressure at the gun set at 30- while spraying it drops to about 25ish.

Seems to me like you may have your pressure set way too high. Try setting your pressure lower and then adjusting gun. Have you called the manuf? I'm not familiar with your gun. Mine has only one adjustment. Simple for the tech.

I deal direct with Paasche for my spray tan equip. You might try contacting them. This is the gun I have.

Re: HVLP GUN TROUBLE?

A typical HVLP Runs around 3-8 psi. Turn it down! Hope this helps
