Looking at a 24hour tan concept.... Salon would not be staffed for approx. 13 hours a day...

The first thing that came to mind was sanitizing.

Seems as though the business as a whole would need to have an overhaul. There would be so many precautionary measures to put in place because of no staff being present.

Security/Access- permises/product/people in facility
How to set beds

I'm really not sure how I think.

Ideally:
-the client would have a card swipe to get in
-the same card swipe to access and set their tanning package/bed
-be under surveillance of the common areas of the salon
-You would profit hand over fist for not having a payroll expense

On the other hand:
-Your business could suffer great losses in many ways due to not being staffed

Why 24 hours?

Do you think you will do business between say 11:00pm and 6:00am?

My concern would be the state requirements for sanitizing the beds. Here, we are 100% responsible for cleaning. So for us it would require atleast one person on staff overnite.
There was a chain here that was open 24 hours about 8 years ago. They discontinued to my understanding due to the safety of the employees.

Also, if the place is unstaffed for that long..another concern would be vandalizm?? Or again making sure the customers follow the laws of your state??? One person to a tanning room, goggles, not allowing more than one session per customer per day...etc.

I do believe in certain markets there may be a need for this concept..but I dont know if there is enough reward to outweigh the risk?? Im with DB on this one..undecided. Too many unknowns to make a solid opinion.

What do you already know about the regulations and laws in your state?

I always wondered about the sanitation too - until I realized that if I were going to lay down naked in an unattended tanning bed, I'd have that sucker so clean you could eat off it. IOW, whomever is getting READY to tan would be the cleaner - you wouldn't depend on someone cleaning it after they used it.

Well yah..that would be a given..I guess my point was more towards what is required by the state..No way would I dive into some bed without cleaning it...ewww..just wrong! There is just so much wrong with that..IMO of course! :0)

i can picture it needing a HEAVY cleaning every morning.

My main concern would be what a normal client sees after some 1 time scrub destroys the place over night.

weve all read about the nasty stuff clients do while where sitting right at the desk! i couldnt imagine what would go on if nobody was present....pee,poop,garbage,sex,double tanning,more than 1 person in room,drinkin,drugs,theft,vandalism all come to mind!

In any business someone will try a 24hr concept, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. If any business is ran correctly it can be great and can set a bench mark on how to run the concept right. Do it wrong and the business will be the laughing stock of the industry.
