Cool HVLP or AIRBRUSH ???

I am a spray tan technician and mostly use the Iwata Revolution Airbrush gun, combined with an Iwata power jet pro compressor.

However, I did buy an HVLP machine and gun, (I was told it was very quick, but then realised that there's more drying time so it really balances itself out).

What I would like to know, is your opinions on what is better and why.

Personally, I think with the airbrush , although it takes longer to apply, you get a much better finish on the hands and feet etc and it doesn't seem to have bad fading, whereas I think that the hvlp tends to soak clients a lot more.

The positive to the hvlp is that it's supposed to produce less "off spray".

Is this true?

I prefer working with the small airbrush , so sold my hvlp unit and bought this gun to work with my Iwata compressor instead, but would still appreciate any tips or certain techniques that anyone has with using an HVLP type gun to combat the problems that I have had.

The gun that I bought that I would like to start using with my Iwata compressor is this

Thanks guys.

Re: HVLP or AIRBRUSH ???

Most of the issues you had with your HVLP are not typical. I think you just had it turned up way too high on the amount of solution that was coming out of the gun. If done correctly HVLP have less over spray, Use less solution and are much faster. That being said, you are putting a HVLP type gun on your compressor? If yes, to get the best results get 4-6" from your client yes I said 4-6 inches. I knoe this seems close but know what I am talking about. Turn the amount of solution coming out of the gun way down and go slow to start.

Sound like your problem is just in your adjustments, like she said. Jut mess with them until you find a setting that works for you. Once you start using your HVLP more you will never want to look at an airbrush gun again. If set properly, the finish on the hands and feet are quite nice if not better with the HVLP (from my personal expierence). Generally HVLP is a much smoother aplication.
