I can not help too much on this since I have not switched to these yet. But first you have to have the right system to load/unload the dollars from these. Whomever is your processor can help you best as I was told you may need a certain type of card.

Hope that helps a little.

Contact your credit card processor. They should have a program that will work with your current terminal.

Re: Hoiday Gift Cards

I am not sure what software you are using, but I went through Salon Touch for my gift cards. I tried my cc processing company first and they wanted way too much money for the few choices of background colors they wanted to put my logo on. With Salon Touch I sent them a business card and the gift cards are exactly the same. They turned out to be cheeper by far!

Re: Hoiday Gift Cards

I used gift central last year, but there is better out there and you still dont have to have a machine, we still do the stickers on the back for whatever denomination they want it for and just record the GC # and the amount purchase so if it comes back without the sticker or does not look right, we reference it to be sure. easy enough. we wrap it in tissue paper, put it in a little red pillow box with a bow. looks like a present. went over way better than enveloped. sold twice as many.

Re: Hoiday Gift Cards

Thanks for the kind remarks guys.....SunSally and Sunnydays.

Tanning software is behind by far in tracking/loading gift cards compared to some hair salon software out there.

Yes we can make the card with magnetic stripe or barcoding as well as number them sequencially to track them, etc...but if you software doesn't support it and you don't have a scanner to do so, most people track manually. If you do have the scanner to load cards....the magnetic stripe on the back will allow you to do so. Check with your software provider.

If you get your CC processor to do them for you, remember they charge you a fee everytime your swipe that card.....just like a credit card. Also, some don't allow you to reload the cards. After they are used, they are garbage and you have to buy new ones...not all are like this, but a lot of them are.

So after you pay for the actual cards, you keep paying afterwards for every transaction.

We can also get backer cards for hanging Point of Sale display and write the amount on there. This way they know how much value is on the card AND you can reuse the cards. Just need to order new backer cards, which can be custom designed with your logo and any design you like. Not off templates with limited choices like mentioned above for card designs by your cc processor.

Hope that answers your questions. Hope you all do great this holiday season.

if you have any other questions....just email me. I don't want to spam on here. Just wanted to answer your questions.

Dean

Re: Hoiday Gift Cards

We are in the process of setting up a gift card program. We went with an internet based processor called stickystreet.com.

It is free to start and then you pay based on the number of cards that you have out there. No per swipe fees. They can handle gift cards, loyalty cards and other special cards.

I will be very happy to get away from the paper gift certificates!
