Are shows the best place to get bed info?

In looking around at beds, it seems that the best way to see what you like/don't like is to actually use one. As I mentioned in a post yesterday, I was in a 15 minute new "really cool looking" new bed (wish I had gotten the name, I THINK it might have been Ergoline but I need to double check) and it didn't tan me as well as the 2003 Solaris that I use at the shop I'm interesting in buying which tans me better than the 2000 Sunstar.

Granted, it would be hard to USE all the beds at a show, but at least you could get in one and kick the tires.

Or is going from salon to salon and paying for a single visit the best way?

Obviously if I buy this salon I'm going to need to put in at least 2 new beds ASAP (I'm thinking one low, one high) and I'm trying to figure out the best way to see them all.

You could go to the show and map out before some salons enroute that might have the beds you are interested in to try them as well.

A lot of the vendors at the show have salons that they can take you to try out a bed. A few years ago some of the vendors had beds set up in the strip mall across the street that you could try. If it is a brand new bed, there may not be any in Nashville.

I have also had vendors fly me to where ever the bed was to try them out.

They won't do this unless they know you are very serious about the bed and you are going to make a big enough purchase to make it worth it to them.

Re: Are shows the best place to get bed info?

Wow, they actually had salons you could try the beds in? Awesome idea (hope someone in marketing got a raise).

I'm in GA. There are salons in adjoining towns I can visit w/o feeling I'm doing any spying (both are far enough away where someone would have to REALLY, REALLY like you in order to pay for the gas to get there).

I have plans for the weekend of the Nashville show but if it's worth seeing a variety of different beds in one place, I may have to cancel my other plans :(

Right now I doubt my budget will give anyone much ROI on a plane trip - but maybe someday :)

Thanks!!

Re: Are shows the best place to get bed info?

woodlands, just remember that it has to do alot with maintenance and lamps when yuo go to other salons. Spying and knowing what's out there for comp is good, but that high level bed you tried may have old lamps and that is why it didn't tan. An awesome bed won't tan if it is not maintained well, so don't base your feelings on a bed/manufacturer strictly on your experiences at other salons.
