Thumbs up TanTalk Contest

Sorry for the delay on this contest. The winner of this contest will have the choice between an 80GB Microsoft Zune of an 80GB Apple iPod. They both retail for around $250.00. Read the rules below the following images.

The deadline for entries will be midnite Sunday April 20th. You can enter as many times as you wish.

I will choose the winner personally. My decision will be final.

I'm looking for a person that implemented an idea or plan that resulted in a large impact on their business. The impact does not have to be purely financial but created a positive impact on their business.

If you submitting an idea that resulted in financial gain for your business you can give percentages so that you do not have to reveal financial numbers that you might feel are private. Of course you can feel free to give dollar amounts if you so choose.

To help point you in the right direction I will share an idea that I did a few years ago.

I was looking at how much money we were spending with advertisers and was thinking the each tanner is a walking advertisement for us. So I implemented a program where our customers could get $25 in sandollars ( used for upgrades ) each time the referred a person that joined our sunclub. This was very popular and has helped us break the 5000 target for sunclub memberships.

I'm looking for ideas that are creative and original that made a large impact.

Good luck!

Re: TanTalk Contest

The single biggest promotion or strategy I did to increase business was when I had a couple of employees who were in the "pretty sorority" at my local college. I offered all the girls in that sorority free tanning and in return they passed out my cards for a FREE first Tan. I was amazed at the increase in my business, especially the male business. Plus, it was very fertile ground for selling lotions and moisturizers as everyone wanted to look like those beautifully tanned girls in that sorority.

Re: TanTalk Contest

Here's an idea I implemented a while ago that has had a tremendous impact on both revenue and customer satisfaction.

I have 5 suncapsule 12 minute stand up booths. I decided to convert 1 to the 9k90 H/P lamps and create another level of tanning. The price was raised $2.00 per tanning session, along with all package prices raised proportionately. Upgrade prices are also established.

This was marketed as providing a more bronze tan due to the higher uva and "high pressure tan results. This idea could be implemented in any salon that has at least 2 identical pieces of equipment, whereas 1 can be converted to an "H/P" outout piece of equipment.
Customers were able to see for themselves the difference in tan that they received. Subsequently, due to the success of this idea, I converted 3 more booths to the 9k90 concept.
As a direct result of this conversion I also replaced 1 unit with a 7 minute suncapsule supersonic and raised the prices another $2.00 per session. This booth is now the most used piece of equipment in my salon.

Simple, inexpensive ideas can sometimes provide more revenue and customer satisfaction than expensive complicated additions.

Good luck on your conversion!!!

Re: TanTalk Contest

I cahnged my 'Tan Club" (EFT accounts) From $29.95 a month for the base beds to a "1/2 price Tan Club". My regular month for non-eft members is $54.95, so if you join the tan club, it would be 1/2 of that (or $27.48). By decreasing the price by $2.47 it gave me a concept to sell. When someone asks for a month, I ask them "How would you like to save 50%?" Ofcourse everyone says "yes" and then you explain the EFT memberships. We are doing it with a 6 month minimum and also included all levels.
My biggest bed is $109.00 a month, they get it for 1/2 that. I also have a 28 lamp "Buget bed" that is usually $29.95 a month so the tan club is $14.98. (When I run ads I use that and say "Tan for as little as $14.98 a month!)
Also, if you do the base beds and want to do the bigger bed for the day, the upgrade is 1/2 of what it would be for a non-eft member.

So basically, my Tan club now is 1/2 price with 1/2 price upgrades.(members also get 10% off lotions but that hasn't changed!)
My membership has more than doubled and has stayed that way for over 9 month. It has grown to the point that it now covers my rent and electric!!

Re: TanTalk Contest

I started here in 2003 and year end was $598,505. For 2007 our final numbers are $1,298.989. I am Director - Operations for all Canada and Northeast of the USA.

What I did was to get rid of all the suppliers that did not give me the services I wanted (custom broker, transport companies, suppliers, etc.) I sat with the new ones to get the best prices for what I needed. Employes were met one by one and told what I was expecting from them. Do you work, dont be late and be polite with customers. As far as the dress code was concerned they were told "If you can wear that attire to Six Flags, dont wear it here".

To date only one employee had to be let go, as for the rest they are the best. They are all treated equals from the receptionist to the President and except for the usual spats between girls, everything goes smoothly.

By the way, I was named as an officer of the Board last week.... yeah for moi!

Re: TanTalk Contest

Check this out... it really works!!! 4 years ago i attended a workshop which included motivational speakers, industry reps, highend spa owners... you got the picture. One gentleman spoke of the VALUE of you service... not in $$$ but in terms of personal value to your patrons regardless of the type of service. One quote that imprinted in my mind that i use with each and every client/quest is that "ITS AN EXPERIENCE NOT AN APPOINTMENT" that they are coming for!! Also, he related that back when he started his career his salon refused tips, and instead asked for and recieved referrals!! These two ideas have stayed with me since he spoke of them . I immediately implimented both ideas and my business has just boomed... no joke! Its been the most sussessful and least expensive tool/ advertising/and attitude adjustment i've ever had!!! In terms of $$$$... i can ony say the concept was truely priceless. My clients/quests aften tell me that they respect the spa's ethics and professional attitude and they truely do make referals! I know its a very simple concept.... but do not underestimate the little things like this that togather make a big difference between a professional salon/sun spa and the tanning parlor down the street!!!! I am prove positive!!! Have a Great day All!!!!
