I've heard going to a sauna before tanning would help me get darker. Is that true? The gym I go to has a sauna, and where I tan is basically right next door. Will this really help or is it just a myth?

Yes it will. Remember that blood flow/moist skin are major parts of the tanning process and the sauna will be the perfect prep for the tanning process.

Does it matter what kind of sauna? For instance I want to purchase an infrared sauna, and use it with my massage therapy and body wraps.

I don't think that you would be interested in putting a hot rock wet type sauna in your tanning salon. The infrared type would be much better--no moisture problems. I have an infrared sauna in the same room as a tanning bed. I offer a tanning/sauna combo which allows them to step out of the sauna and into the tanning bed. I don't do a lot of these because most people don't take the time to spend an hour or so just to relax and get a nice tan. If the customer wishes to sauna and tan right after you have to warn them to cut back on their normal tan time because of overexposure from being in the sauna.

Just be careful with the infrared (far infrared) types of saunas...you can run the risk of overexposure once they do the sauna and the tanning bed. :)
