The audio file I"m listening to right now I just heard this while you were posting the message! lol

These immunoregulatory properties indicate that ligands with the potential to activate the VDR, including supplementation with calcitriol (as well as a number of synthetic modulators), may have therapeutic clinical applications in the treatment of; inflammatory diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis), dermatological conditions (psoriasis, actinic keratosis), osteoporosis, cancers (prostate, colon, breast, myelodysplasia, leukemia, head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, and basal cell carcinoma), and autoimmune diseases (systemic lupus erythematosus, type I diabetes, multiple sclerosis) and in preventing organ transplant rejection. However the effects of supplementation with vitamin D, as yet, remain unclear, and supplementation may be inadvisable for individuals with sarcoidosis and other diseases involving vitamin D hypersensitivity.

Re: Question for Don Smith or others!

I have an aunt with lupus and if anything it made her feel better than any of the meds she has to take.

Re: Question for Don Smith or others!

Be careful! Although the longer wavelengths, i.e., 340 nm - 400 nm, have been shown to be beneficial for lupus patients, the shorter wavelengths, i.e., <340 nm, have been shown to exacerbate lupus.

Anyone with lupus should be advised to discuss whether or not to tan with their doctor.

Re: Question for Don Smith or others!

Thank You Very Much Don!!! So far by everything that I have found on line and from others it seems to beneficial to lupus. I told her as soon as she told me that she had it to talk to her doctor first before tanning. She said her doctor told her to becareful in the sunlight, but that in the summer she is laying out in the sun alot and it doesnt bother her! But thank you again everyone and I will pass on all this information to her!!
Cheers!

Re: Question for Don Smith or others!

I got more info from my mom. If they have discoid (sp) Lupus I wouldn't reccomend it. They get disc shaped sores so they will know if that is this kind. . She tells people with lupus who really wants to tan they can go no more than 5 minutes (IN A WARM BED) to start just to see if it triggers the symptoms. If it doesn't, let them go longer.
