You can try Thomco. The policy is written by Zurich. They are an excellent insurance company. Their phone number is 800-476-4940. They are about the same price as Universal. They may give extra location discounts. I left them to go to Universal because I did not care for my agent. Hope this helps.

Re: In search of new Insurance

We purchased a tanning salon about 4 months ago and I did a lot of price comparison and ended up keeping the same insurer that the prior owner had, since it had best price and coverage. You also want to make sure that the insurer specializes in tanning salon or has a plan for tanning salons. The company we picked is called :

GDI Insurance Agency, Inc

Re: In search of new Insurance

Make sure that you get a policy designed for tanning. It is important that you have "professional" liability" in addition to the regular general liability that any business would need. If you don't have professional liability, for your professional services (ie. tanning, cosmetology, etc), you run the risk of not being covered if someone gets burned or injured during the service. Also ask about cancer and eyewear exclusions. If it is a 'real' tanning policy, the agent will be able to answer all of these questions fully and be well informed and involved in the tanning industry.

Hope this helps!

Re: In search of new Insurance

I don't think you need Professional liability if your tanning salon does not offer hands on service... i.e Spray-on tan done by employees or spa services performed by an employee. This is what one agent told me.

However, you may want to ask if they cover Data Loss, which will cover your computer systems if they break down, if you use one to manage your tanning beds. Some insurance companies offer this as an option, that you can add for more money.

If you are in CA, which looks like you are, you may also want to add Earthquick coverage.

In addition, most plans do not cover Store front glass breakage, but you can add for additional fee.

Re: In search of new Insurance

The insurance industry considers tanning a professional service regardless of how it is offered. The main reason is because when someone tans at your salon, you are determining how long they tan based on several factors including when they last tanned and what their skin type is. By offering your professional advise in this way, you are offering a professional service. General liability policies have a specific exclusion written into them for professional services.

If an agent tells you that a policy with only general liability coverage covers your tanning beds, they are incorrect.

Computer coverage (often called EDP for Electronic Data Protection) is definitely a coverage you should ask about if you have a computer system.

Re: In search of new Insurance

I just signed up with InsurTec. The gal always gets back to me same day as I have had a lot of questions for her! The premium beat out three other companies for way more coverage. This is for airbrush tanning in salon and mobile though but everyone on here has nothing but good things to say about them.

Insuretec was almost twice the cost for less coverage when I compared them to GLS Underwriters. My advice is to get quotes at several different places and compare!
