too many salons

Why does it seem like there are so many tanning salons out there? Are they all making money- I suppose they must be or why keep the doors open?????

Re: too many salons

If you invest $100K in a business and then you close it down...you still owe $100K.

That's why they are still open.

Re: too many salons

If you take the # of hours worked vs. the pay...... Tanning salon owners in general dont make squat per hour.... We do value our time, just dont monitarily benefit from it.

Don't answer that nitwit. Fool is on a tanning forum talking about value of time.

Re: too many salons

our business , tanning- is growing ,being there to service the customer - if you invest that much and walk after a year , you are not giving it a chance to get a customer base ,to me you need 3 years to do this - at least my thoughts .................

Re: too many salons

True Fredster, I estimate the make or break time for this industry to be about three years - sadly though, many salon owners don't make it and have to bail within 12-18 months. Yes, there are a ton of salons out there, with about a 10-20% attrition rate over the past couple of years I reckon. While many salons are not "making it big" revenue and profit-wise, they are making enough to keep their heads above water and hoping (and in some cases praying) that next year is always going to be the year that "the good times" return. Folks, the "good times" for the size of this industry went away five years ago, and they aren't coming back for a very long time - unless ... well, I'm tired of talking to myself about that pipe dream. In our economy, the market will always balance itself; supply will always adjust to demand, whether we like it or not. Time is valuable, yes, but it is also invaluable, and worthless. If you are, in your own estimation, making the best of "your time" in your own estimation, then time has not been wasted. However, if you continue to use your time to "beat your head against a wall and you fail to make hole in the wall", then you ought to reevaluate your use of "your time". Capiche? Hope this helps, as always. -Belvy
