Unhappy Family Business

I need advice...I have been in business with my mom for 3 years. She recently has pretty much pulled out of the business to get a different job due to the fact that my little brother just had two brain surgerys and the medical bills are adding up very fast. I dpn't fault her but at the same time I'm a little scared to have all of this on my shoulders. I know it's september and it's slow every year at this time but really it's sunny and 95 degrees!! I only tan like 15-20 ppl a day and very little income. I am also an esthetician and manicurist and I am NOT busy! I must be doing something wrong there is no excuse for me being THIS slow. What do I need to do?

Re: Family Business

We manage one salon and own a second salon. The slowest weeks of the year are the last two weeks of August and the first two or three weeks of September. We have seen some better sales in our slow months as a result of not stopping our advertising during summer months. Adverstising takes time to build traction and our advertising has been fairly consistent for five years. Last year we started to see an increase in coupons during the slow months for the first time. Advertising is not a simple thing that produces immediate results. Don't worry be happy, Pat Paradise

Re: Family Business

I do nails as well and I have not been super busy the past couple of weekes either. I think I am always slower this time of year, at least with the nails, is because all the mothers are getting thier kids back to school and don't really have alot of time to come in. It will start to pick up soon.

Re: Family Business

Nailartist, why when I have my nails done do my hang nails go away? I don't feel like I'm doing anything different.

Re: Family Business

back to school weeks....(first 2 weeks of sept) are the slowest weeks of the entire year. End of sept will bring colder days and more bodies.

For the cheapest and most effective advertising i've done is a Mobile sign.

put one up at the entrance of your plaza advertising Buy 1 get 1 Free for a 2 week period also saying....bring in a friend with you....and you'll get a good response if you have good traffic passing by.

it'll cost you about $150-$200 but it usually pays itself off in the first couple hours of being up.

Mailout works best, but you are in no position to spend $5,000-$10,000 on that...

make sure you spend that extra little bit to get the most effective mobile sign with images, colour and make it look good.

Here's what i'm talking about.

www.magnetsigns.com is who these guys are.....i've dealt with them before many times. I have other companies beating their price by almost half, but i still refuse because NOBODY gives the same effect that their signs do.

I don't know if you have sign companies that offer mini billboards like this...

this would be more effective..................but hey......do with what you've got.
