Pi Cry The "future" of indoor tanning?

That's exactly the "Big Deal" - for both sides. As a business, you'd better "always be grooming your future customer base" or you're in big trouble. That's precisely where all of us are at, as an industry. The media campaigns of those that profit from people being afraid of the sun (cancer - BIG COSMEDICS, BIG PHARMA, and Dermterrorists), and the "credible medical professionals" they enlist to produce the "findings" they want, have been extremely effective.

At one point, I heard a statistic that only about 10-15% of the national population "admitted" that they use indoor tanning facilities. That number, by itself, is actually pretty big by the time you factor out all of the skin-types (and they know who they are) that don't generally use indoor tanning facilities (although, even they too would benefit from the skin conditioning we offer, since everybody can burn, regardless of skin tone or racial origin). And I am sure that that number I heard years ago, has decreased over the years - thanks to the mouthpieces on TV and the ads and the articles, like this one.

And the main problem is that damage has been done. How many thousands, millions of prospective tanners have read this? And been influenced by it? And every TV expose' and report? And no matter how strongly you word a legalese rebuttal letter to the editor, no matter how many rebuttal articles you submit to the anchor to counter the assertions of their report - the damage has been done.

Now, I understand the "political and financial nature" of national news broadcasts, and the financial and political ties that the magazines and news papers have to the "establishment" - but unless we can get to the "national consumer base" via these media, we will either die as an industry, or go the way of the chiropractors and other holistic health practioners - "pay to play". That's right, government regulation. And that might not be such a bad idea at this point, IMPO. ~If you can't beat 'em ... you know the rest~
