Rep Power: 17 | Does anyone enjoy this? Ok, so honestly. Before I make a decision to get into this, does anybody LIKE owning their tanning salon? Is there anyone who WOULD do it again if they had the chance to go back and do something else? |

I would never want to work for anyone else... i think a lot of the griping has to do with the struggles of working for urself and owning a business. its stressful and I think you will find that in any business unless you have been around 10 years or so u always feel on edge

Rep Power: 19 | Re: Does anyone enjoy this? Pretty much what everyone else said. I love my customers and would miss them alot if I wasn't here. I don't make much money, but I'm just starting my 3rd yr, so maybe it will get better. I also have people that work for me. I only work 40 hours. I, too, would do alot of things differently, but thats part of it, too. Learning as you go. My salon is very small and some people on here feel if you don't have a mega salon you can't make money. I disagree as the mega salons cost mega to operate. My rent is cheap. My fixed pmts not so much. If I hadn't paid too much for the salon (1st mistake) I would be making money. Would I go in debt thousands and thousands of $$$? Nope. |

Rep Power: 17 | Re: Does anyone enjoy this? well it has its pros and cons. it would be great if i could get paid, i like being my own boss, i am getting used to bossing other people around, i am at the bank about 5 days a week, i get tired of making the schedule out, i get tired of writing payroll checks, i hate repaying payroll taxes and sales taxes, insurance, repairs, incidentials etc. i like most of the people, i like the fact that i am a business owner although i really dont know what i am doing. as for working another job, i dont know what it would be? i like thinking that our salon is a fun place for people to come. take your location very seriously-demographics, and take into consideration that the economy is very poor right now-at least it is in our little town. if you know what you have to pay out each month and you can STILL make money even in the slow months, then i would say go for it. make sure you have a "cushion" in the bank to fall back on in the slow months. this is a very seasonable business.
