Rep Power: 0 | Need some input for interview I would like some input on these 2 questions of many that they sent me that i will be answering in an interview for a spotlight section in a local paper magazine. 1.Why open a tanning salon, especially with all the warnings against it? 2. What makes tanning so addictive? Thanks CR |

In the past year I have seen more scientific evidence and studies that support tanning in moderation is better for you then to avoid the sun all together. You can go to the UV forum right here on tantalk to read many of them. 2. Is from the recent study done by Dr. Fisher of the Dana Farber Cancer Center. The same study also suggests tanning will protect you from skin cancer. "Tanning Addiction" Explained. Quote: There is even the possibility that p53 protects against skin damage in a second — and previously unsuspected — way. The protein not only causes skin to tan in response to sunlight, it may also underlie people's desire to spend time in the sun. The same process that causes POMC to produce α-MSH also leads to the production of β-endorphin, a protein that binds to the body's opiate receptors and may be associated with feelings of pleasure. "Even as p53 is causing skin to tan during sunlight exposure, it may also affect neuronal circuits," Fisher says. "These proteins may provide an explicit link between the regulation of tanning and of mood. |

Rep Power: 103 | Re: Need some input for interview Decline the interview. It sounds like a real fair and balanced article. You, a local tanning salon owner, on one side and then a medical doctor on the other. It will come across that everything you say is simply to try to justify your existence. Refer the reporter to the proper research instead. Find the links in the positive UV forum and give them, maybe 20 or 30 links to information that explains the latest UV/vitamin D research.

I have done many interviews and with a little understanding and being proactive you can address concerns in a positive fashion. Don't think that they are going to give you good press because all of the bad media over the years is influencing their thoughts. Give them good background to read and study to add to your interview like research and studies mentioned here. Good luck. |

Rep Power: 35 | Re: Need some input for interview With notice and understanding I would absolutely do the interview. When the news media came in here I panicked and kicked them out. I did however tell them with an appointment I would talk to them. The report turned out to be very fair and not that negative at all... they did tape my salon and in the report they interviewed a dumpy looking hair salon that has one stand-up only and made ours salon appear to be theirs....so they got great publicity out of our salon. |
