(Back hair removal, nose hair clipping, etc.) Try HVLP sunless as an inexpensive way to get into the sunless market. Swimwear does well for those that are there to sell it and are good at retail. I hear that candles go really well in Canada. They buy them for warmth and it makes the igloo smell nice. JJ does well cross marketing his car wash. Buy any package, get a free car wash. Some do well with jewelry, others buy it and end up giving it away. I think it all depends on you. If you have the personality and the ability to sell, you will do well with whatever you put in. Don't expect something to sell just because you displayed it next to the register. I am not at the salon much and depend on young girls to sell what is there. If that is your situation too or if sales isn't your strong suit, don't expect much.

So find something to sell that combines the strong points of tanning. Be it a weightloss program, Vacu Step, wraps, supplements like Herbalife, etc. Usually those things also give you more 'communication time' with customers to do cross selling. I personally love the spa/sauna idea, but that's a big set-up. If you do it, you have to do it right.

Rep Power: 103 | Re: What else besides tanning....if any?? Yep. Weightloss is a huge business. Everyone wants to lose weight and most people are lazy by nature, so if you tell them that something will "melt away the pounds" and they don't have to work at it, many of them will buy it even though they know better. There is always that hope that Oprah is right and it really isn't my fault that I'm fat (or depressed, or broke, or whatever else is wrong in my life). It will work better if you are like Tonya and worked your butt off to get in shape and can use yourself as an example of why your product is responsible. (Nothing against formostar or anything else, but it ain't gonna make you skinny unless you work more and eat less, which would have done the same thing without the formostar, IMO) Another thing is to keep in mind who your customer is. Are you marketing to upper income (doctor's wives, professionals, etc.), to middle income (factory workers, school teachers)? Don't put jewelry that retails for $100 in your salon if you are selling $5 tans. Don't expect to sell a lot of $3 toe rings if you are going for the health spa atmosphere and the $45 HP sessions. Know your market. There isn't anything (besides lotion) that will go well in every salon out there and there isn't anything out there (including lotions) that will do well unless you have the ability to sell.
