COMPETITION IS FOR SALE - tanTALK

I just found out yesterday that my main competition is up for sale. This explains why he is doing his fire sales. I have lost some business to this guy because he is selling his unlimited monthly packages for $18.95 and no commitment required. His equipment is Sundash and they are at least 8 years old. He does not change his lamps and most of his customers try his salon for a month and then come back to me. I don't know if this sale is good or bad. I would hope that he doesn't sell and just liquidates his equipment and closes his doors. If he does sell it, then the new owners would most likely upgrade equipment. I'm not going to concern myself right now and let the chips fall as they may.

I think it's a good thing he's for sale. It's not going well for him obviously so the fire sales are a last resort. Try to get as many customers from them as possible now. IF he sells and new owners invest heavily, they must first win them back from you. Maybe offer a very interesting EFT, so that you got their commitment?

In the past when I was in the video business, I would buy my competitors if they come up for sale. I did this twice. The tanning business is a lot different now. It is not the cash cow it was 10 to 15 years ago. If it were 10 years ago, I might pursue it, but like Neon said, I would rather they just close. Besides, I don't have the money I had 10 years ago.

My comp just jumped from 8 to 25 locations. Have at it. I am content with one location and constantly evolving it. I am waiting to see what they do with the pricing models for the newly acquired salons. They will all now be under the franchise name making it have to follow those rules.

Should be interesting.....

Just do your thing, but be aware of your competition and don't put on the blinders.

Could be that his clients think he may not be around to get their whole monthly package..........dang wouldn` that be a shame if that got around......:sarcasm:
