Rep Power: 0 | Tanning, Eyes, and Advice Hi all. I'm looking for a little advice with something, and I figured a tanning forum might be a good place to start. I'm 26, and I've been tanning in standup boothes for about 5 years on and off... more so in the winter. I never usually go in full time as I'm not looking to get dark, just to have a little color. I also play it safe and usually put on a spf 8 sunblock on my ears, nose and other sensitive areas, and have used winks for eye protection. The reason I'm writing today is because I've recently been reading some horrible things that can happen from letting the UV light hit any parts of your eyes, and this has brought some concerns to me. When I go in, I've always noticed that if I turn my eyes and try to look out the corners, for whatever reason I can sometimes see light if I peek out. I usually try to crunch my face around the winks to make sure nothing gets in, but I have no idea if any is or not because I'm usually looking forward or my eyes are shut. I always thought it probably wasn't such a big deal because I figured my eyelid corners were blocking the light anyways, but when I learned the amount of light your eyelids actually block I started to worry a bit. I could totally be being paranoid, but just the thought that I could have been exposing myself to harm when all the while I thought I was safe has me nervous. When I look in the mirror at my eyes and open them all the way, I DO see a light pink line on the part of my eyes that are usually exposed... but that could be due to the fact that they tend to be more dry since my lasik surgery a year ago, the fact that I work in front of a computer all day long, and they are just especially dry in the winter time. I was just at the eye doctor's for a checkup on my lasik surgury and he didn't notice anything, but at the time I also didn't ask him (and of course, he's on vacation now till the 25th.) Basically, I was curious judging from what I've told you, should I have any real concerns and should I try to see an eye doctor immediately for another checkup? Does it sound like I'm being too paranoid? And, if something IS wrong, is the situation treatable or will I have to have like my eyes removed or something? Anyone that could offer any kind of advice would be REALLY appreciated... I don't know who to talk to about this. Also, I've switched from winks to peepers, and they seem to block any and all light out no matter how I turn my eyes. Although, I've been so worried lately that I can't even bring myself to go back in there. Just the thought that I may have been damaging myself for so long turns me off tot he whole thing. Thanks for listening. |

Rep Power: 20 | Re: Tanning, Eyes, and Advice I can't use wink ease because my lashes are too long, but the view keepers (same company manufacturors them) work great for me. They are a little bigger than the wink ease and no light can get in for me. I know what you are talking about with the wink ease, they fit but if you blink they move around. Maybe ask you salon if they can offer those to you. Or wear the goggles with a strap, you can carefully slide the strap around with out moving the goggles so you don't get a line. |
