aloe vera based vs water based lotions

I checked the search forum and couldn't find anything........... What is the deal with these two lotions? I had a customer that wanted Matahari because its not water-based.... What should have been my comeback? Never heard it before.

She may have wanted the aloe vera for it's added qualities.

Thickness and speed of absorbsion. Aloe based lotions are not always "aloe leaf juice" but powered aloe that's mixed with water.

Also, a water based lotion will absorb faster which results in working faster.

Some people hear some keyword and think that's the "be all end all" which it isn't.

Re: aloe vera based vs water based lotions

I thought that lotions with the first ingredient being aloe is higher quality than when it is based with water? Possiably I was missinformed. I thought that I read that in my Tanology manual.
Am I wrong?

Re: aloe vera based vs water based lotions

You are right rawgoddess, if aloe is the first ingrediant there is more of that. If the first ingrediant is water or aqua, it is water based. Lower end lotions are water based.

GSK Products are Aloe Vera based but have some of the lowest salon prices because I sell direct to salons and do not have profits built in for distributors in my salon cost.

Okay, good! That is what I have been telling my girls. We were going thru all our lotions the other day and going oh, this one is water, etc. Just for the **** of it.

Re: aloe vera based vs water based lotions

You guys can take this for whatever its worth, but I just talked to Tom at Breeze products and he explained all of this to me. Just because the lotion lists water as the first ingredient doesn't mean it is water based. If the 2 or 3 rd ingredient is aloe anything, it is aloe based. They have to have the water listed because they mix it with the aloe powder or gel to make the lotion. Tom said the FDA requires water listed first. Its a new law that went into effect in 2002, but there are companies that have "grandfathered" their lotions in. Just about every lotion on my shelf starts with water, but the second ing is aloe gel. Just FYI.

Re: aloe vera based vs water based lotions

Bottom line is that it doesn't matter what is in the bottle of tanning lotion it's if the stuff even stable long enough to work. (a HEM breeze and your reformulations of double cold and hot fudge that lasts as long as WEENIE TOTS on a good day)

Some of the best tanning lotions I've used have ALCOHOL listed as a top ingredient so it's CLEARLY all about the overall product and nothing to do with what's first in line on a label.
