Contractors

I am in the process of getting bids/estimates for some remodeling in the salon. I have called 15 contractors and only 1 has shown up. That one still hasn't given me an estimate though. I told them my budget was around $10,000 and needed it done in the next month. What am I doing wrong. Why won't these people/companies call me back?

they are just busy this time of year, and may have much bigger jobs on their plates versus your 10,000 job.

don't tell them your budget right off the bat. let them look at what you want, give you an estimate, and then if it's way off, let them know your budget. might make them actually give you a bid faster, and then you can estimate the costs between all of the GC;s.

Re: Contractors

I have talked to several 'wives of contractors'. They promise that their husband is coming by and he never shows up. Then even a friend did it. I need the estimates for a lawsuit, but do actually need to get the work done. I can't file the lawsuit until I have the estimates.

Re: Contractors

Because the room the trainers had looks like ****. They TRASHED the room they had and moved out. If I want to make any money on that space i'm paying for it has to be fixed.

Re: Contractors

I see. But do you really need a contractor? Hubby not handy, no handy friends? What needs to be done? 10K for one room?

Yep, don't give them your budget right away, have them give you the estimate first.

Re: Contractors

Not that $10,000 isn't alot of money but there is not a lot of profit in a job that is realtively small. That and the fact that good contractors are generally booked up for a few months.
