Rep Power: 24 | Showering After Tanning Okay, expanding my knowledge. For every site I've found that says showering immediately after tanning does not affect your tan, there's another that says it does. EXAMPLE: "Can I shower after I tan? Yes, you can. However, taking a shower or bath removes the mantel acid from your skin and will actually slow down or stop the tanning process. We recommend that you not shower for about 2 hours afterwards." Now, I understand that showering right away will diminish the effectiveness of your bronzing lotions, but what I want to know is how showering can slow or stop the tanning PROCESS. A process that takes place WITHIN the skin, not ON it. I've done an internet search on mantel acid and it comes back as actually being "acid mantel-a barrier of oil and perspiration, created by the sweat and sebaceous glands of the dermis, that protects the body from infections. We can strip this away by using harsh soaps thus disrupting the pH of the skin." Someone please tell me, or refer me to somewhere that can explain exactly HOW showering right after tanning affects the actual process of tanning? I'm aware that the statement is that it does...I need to know the hows and whys.

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Showering After Tanning I have showered right after tanning and I have showered 8 hours later and it never did any difference. I think it depends on your type of skin. Like for tingles, no matter how long I wait after it still reactivates the tingle and itch like heck as soon as I get into the shower. |
