But that being said, laminate flooring is not the most durable, not the easiest to keep clean, and as it is a floating floor (not secured to the floor, rests on a thin pad and is held in place by the base boards) it can have a hollow sound that might get irritating, if you're the kind of person bothered by such stuff. Like you say however, if a panel gets damaged, it can be very convenient to lift it out and replace... tho this does involve removing all the pieces from the wall to that particular panel. You also have to factor in installation. Can you use a saw and router? This requires a bit of skill to be sure!! Some lamintae floors click together without adhesive. This makes things easier when installing but the floor is not water proof... this makes mopping more of a challenge! AND think of the foot traffic your salon gets. Not nearly the same as a hallway or kitchen at home, which of course is what this Ikea brand is intended for. All being said, I would pay a bit more and get a real hardwood or ceramic tile flooring put in. I doubt you would be satisified in the long run with how this floor will look in even 1 year. |

Rep Power: 21 | Re: Ikea Flooring I would have to agree with glo, I am not in the floor bus but I have a floating floor in my salon and have only been open a little over a year and already have areas that I regret putting in the floor and will probably switch it out when I have the extra $$ or sooner. |

Rep Power: 21 | Re: Ikea Flooring Thanks Glo - I undestand tile and real wood are way better. I'm looking for a cheap fix. When you go to Ikea they have the same floor , It looks like it holds up well. Don't know when they change it out though . Whatever I do I will do myself. I wish the space had concrete. It will take me forever to tile 1500 sq ft. , but maybe I have to do it. Being that I'm stuck with the floor, I should skimp on $$ somewhere else. |

Rep Power: 21 | Re: Ikea Flooring If a cheap fix is it, I'd go with comercial grade carpeting, even indoor outdoor, for around $0.49 a SF. It uses no pad or the thinest pad available, is super durable, and is very easy to keep clean. AND you won't feel bad when you rip it out in a year or 2 & replace it, because the cost and time invested is so much less. |

Depends. Cheapest installation with no tear out and no pad... maybe a $1 a SF? With a decent pad, tear out, etc, up to $2.50.... O, that's juyst the installation prices! Sorry... again, depending on the carpeting, it could be as low as $1.50 and as high as gosh, we have stuff in the $10 range but I doubt you'd put that in your salon!.... | |
