I think it depends on the equipment that you have. 100 Watt units vrs. 160 watt units etc. I think the best thing to do, is when you get a new bed, do a lamp read with the acrylic's on and then with them off. Then after 1500 hours or so, see what the difference is each time you relamp. Most acrylics won't even last that long with out breaking or just looking real bad. We have always (once a month) polished the acrylic with a product called Novus 1 which is a very good polishing product. Novus 2 and 3 are also available and this is for deeper scratches etc. And with breakage, sometimes it doesn't depend on the size of the person getting in the bed, its the equipment design alone. I know a few bed types that go through acrylic's constantly. I know of one model that there is more of those acrylics sold then any other acrylic's combined. So design is a big factor in the bed and also the quality of the acrylic. Frosted acrylics will automatically diminish uv transmission more than a clear acrylic. My thoughts on the frosted acrylics are for beds that have the lamps spaced apart too far the frosted acrylic helps spread the uv light more even to the tanner. I would make sure that you purchase a good quality acrylic (polycast) and make sure you keep it as clean as possible and don't use abrasive cleaner on them. Novus 1 is a very good product. Sometimes rubber strips work well on the alluminum/steel support strips also to save on breakage and scratches. It can't be too wide though because you will end up stripping your tanners. Just my thoughts. Last edited by Sarge; 07-13-2006 at 09:08 PM. |

Then someone else sees the little crack so they feel compelled to make a bigger crack in the door. Next thing ya know I haw a whole in the door. How embarassing for us.

I talk to them about it and remind them that on the release form they SIGNED and agreed they would only use salon appoved lotion, that I am not going to void their package THIS time, but next time...I WILL. Usually does the trick. I may be a ***** but these UWE beds are not cheap and they love them. I have my clients now where they know how we are and when they walk in, they put their eyewear and lotion on the counter for us to see! |

I still think there's so many variables that 3,000+ hours and check the difference in meter readings with and with out acrylics on. Substantial difference + lots of hours.....change 'em.
