Rep Power: 25 | Re: jason blues I think if you shut down for the whole month of August, after only being open since February, you will potentially kill your business permanently! Shutting down makes you look unreliable, and not like a place customers want to "invest" their money by buying packages. Also -- unless you are at the base of a college campus (which it sounds like you are not), doing this big shin-dig in September is the WORST POSSIBLE TIMING! It is the LEAST likely time that people are thinking or interested in tanning. It will be a flop. My advice: 1. Limit your hours if you have to, maybe shut down Sundays, but do NOT close for the entire month of August! 2. Start running, RIGHT NOW, a "Tan 'till 2007" special. If you started it today, $107 might be a good price point, or even $99. If you wait until Sept to run it, I'd probably make it more like $59 and you won't get nearly as many takers. 3. If you want to do a "push" for business now to help JASON, consider doing a "We're having a baby so everyone celebrates" sort of theme. Do a Free Tan Weekend or the radio remote or something like that around that theme. Could even have them bring in a new or gently used baby outfit or toy to donate to a local charity as a 'hook' (radio stations love that, might even be able to get other media to cover you) and everyone that brings something gets a free tan and their name in a drawing for a FREE TAN 'TILL 2007 package!! THEN -- in Feb, do an ANNIVERSAY SALE CELEBRATION. You have the PERFECT anniversary for this, because this is the PRIME time people are starting to think about tanning. Advertise it like crazy, send a flyer or postcard or invitation to EVERY client in your data base etc and try to lock them in then for packages for the season. Don't close -- you'll kill your business and never recover. |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: jason blues I have two locations, i am going on vacation in July and to cut costs etc, I am closing the one location that I run for a week, and people ***** ***** *****, even though they an go across town (5 min drive) to my other location that has the exact same beds. And its funny the people that complain will be the ones that wont' come tan anyway b/c they are doing this and that, July is just dead for us. But I wouldn't close that long of a time, they will go somewhere else. I know it sounds like a good thing to do, but its not |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: jason blues Yeah i know its rough, its very hard to have a full tiem job and run a salon. Its almost impossible when you're first starting out. Just be careful, becuase those tanners might say its not a big deal but they will tan somewhere when you're closed and the other salons in town will take full advantage once they hear you are closing. I know you think its going to save you money, and it just might, but just be careful, dont' want it to bite you in the butt. PersonallyI wouldn't take the risk, if you don't have the finances (not to be rude) but maybe this isnt' for you. Just trying to help out. |

Rep Power: 34 | Re: jason blues Seriously there are two salons in town that are know for closing for 5 minutes to a hour at some point during the day, to go to the bank, eat take alittle break. Ya may wonder how I know... because thier clients tan with me now, because of that. Your talking a entire month, not good at all. |
