Rep Power: 0 | I want to prosecute! I wanted to get feedback from owners/managers who have caught an employee stealing and prosecuted. I have caught an emplyee stealing on video tape and in the computer while my fingerprint reader was down. My manager brought the employee in and this employee admitted to the theft, signed a document stating that she admits to stealing and paid 1/2 of the amount she stole. Everything would have been great if it ended like that. However, it did not. The employee filed unfair termination, her mother made a scene in my lobby, and now has stated that she is suing me over the termination and money she had to pay back. Has anyone been succesfull in pressing charges on stealing employees? PLEASE LET ME KNOW! |

We have the person on video as well and have brought this tape to the police. The police have called her in and she has pleaded guilty (couldn't do much else after seeing the video images!). We now have to take it to court. Maybe go to the police and see what you can do. Good luck!

I KNEW one of my employees was stealing but couldn't prove it (other than the drawer was ALWAYS short) so I let her go with no explanation other than I didn't put her on the schedule. Through gossip, her mom heard she was terminated for stealing and called me up threatening to sue me. I said no, she was let go because it is slow season, I don't know where you heard that but thats not the case. (ACTUALLY WAS THE CASE). My attorney said don't accuse anyone whatsoever because they can come back on you and I did the right thing. |
