Unhappy Rash after tanning

:O Hi guys...I just wanted to get your opinion on what could be going on...I know you have probably been asked this a thousand times..sorry if this is the thousand and one time you have been asked!

I started at a sunseekers two weeks ago. I am fair skinned but tend not to burn too much. It does take a while for me to tan. I have a base on my arms since I am outside a lot...but my legs, stomach and back haven't seen the sun in awhile.

Anyhow i started at 5 minutes in a super bed..think it is an orion bed. I used ambrosia accelerator packet..did fine. Infact i didn't get any color...I stayed at 5 for a couple days..then upped it to 7 minutes..did fine..then too 10 minutes..started using ambrosia bronzer lotion..when i get home I always put an aloe lotion on ..I did ok at 10 then i went to 12. I developed an itchy small red rash on my upper back and stomach. I stayed away for a day..then went back and stayed at 10 ..i covered my stomach and back and did ok...went to 12 and then the stomach rash came back..not so bad..so stayed away a day or two then went back at 12...did ok..then went to 15 and now my upper thighs and a little bit on my lower legs have a red blotchy itchy rash....really really itchy.it is kind of raised.

Obviously i am will stay away for longer this time..could it be I just did too much too soon? I went every day to get a base before vacation for a week..then settled down once i got a rash here and there..The rash on my stomach is good..and hasn't come back..but the ones on the top of my thighs is really really bothering me. Is it the Ambrosia? Could it be the soap i am using<use zest> I was just wondering what is giving me the rash..my thighs and stomach were never in contact with the bed...and yes I do not use a booth.. I have read it could be tanner's itch<is that red and blotchy?> or maybe a heat rash??

What do you all think...Thanks by the way

Re: Rash after tanning

What did your tanning consultant say?

It sounds like a heat rash to me. Maybe trying a bed that is not wuite so hot or backing off on your exposure time.

Re: Rash after tanning

The consultant seemed confused by it... She asked me if it was white raised bumps...so I told her to look at it...Then she said that it could be that i am reacting to the sanitizer on the beds..however..the only part that got it that is touching the bed is my back. She told me to put aloe on it and that I could keep tanning..

However, I am going to wait to let this heal first. It is still itchy this morning but looks a little better.

So you think when i do go back...go back down in time too? my neighbor goes to the salon...and she got it before i did..she is about a week ahead of me..She mentioned it to me and said she waited until it healed..she went back and was ok..Except she got a little bit back on her stomach..but her consultant told her it was ok to increase her time.

Re: Rash after tanning

If the consultant seemed confused by it.

1. Go higher up to a manager or owner for an explaination.
2. Make sure the consultants are certified.
3. Ask about their cleaning processes. Have them demonstrate for you.
4. Take a damp towl in and wipe off an excess cleaner that might be on the bed.
5. Make sure you are not over exposing by being out in the sun in addition to your sessions.
6. Make sure any medications you are taking do not have a photosynthesising reaction, even a change in Birth Control can cause one.
7. Try changing lotions as you might be reacting to something in the lotion like a nut oil.

Re: Rash after tanning

You are tanning too much. Some customers are under the impression that they will be tan in X amount of time or by the time their package runs out.

This is FAR from the truth. The truth is it can and will take about 30days or more for you to develop a TRUE base tan. Until that, you are going to have to take it easy. Every time you burn tack on another week.

Re: Rash after tanning

I'd ditch the Aloe after tanning lotion, and only go every other day. I'd do a good exfoliation too, and it might be smart to see a dermatologist if nothing improves. It might be totally unrelated to your tanning, y'know!

Re: Rash after tanning

yep, it is very possible to be OVER moisturizing. This can cause a raw, itchy rash.

This is only true if you are moisturizing with Unleaded, or Unleaded Plus. MMMMMMKAY. Treat a rash as you would any other medical situation - under the watchful eye of your medical professional.

Re: Rash after tanning

try using something other then what they have at the tanning salon, from my experience the accelerator lotions are very redding, i use the X bronzer it works pretty well.
