lotion cups

Do any of you sell lotion in a cup for single use? If so, what do you usually charge? I have been giving it out and realize that people are taking advantage of this several times.

Re: lotion cups

I only sell in cups, never in packettes anymore. We use the 15 ml cups (with about 10 ml in it) and charge $ 1 - $ 2,50.

Re: lotion cups

How much do you put in the cups?

top250tansyou 05-21-2006 06:28 PM

Re: lotion cups

We charge 3.50 to 5. I fill them all the way to the top. No lids - one time use only.

Re: lotion cups

We sell a lot of lotions in the cups, I also did away with the packets. I usually don't fill the cups until someone ask for it and then i will fill it to the top an charge them what a packet would of cost.

avanti 05-22-2006 08:37 AM

Re: lotion cups

Just wondering....why did you stop selling packets?

cametotalktan 05-22-2006 10:55 AM

Re: lotion cups

we still have packettes, but if we are out of a particular name, then we use the cups if we have the bottle laying around.

Re: lotion cups

we have packettes for sale 2.50 - 7.00
and cups for 4-6...filled 3/4 way up - no lids

tanchix 05-22-2006 11:19 AM

Re: lotion cups

I have the 1 oz cups and fill them half way up (using the free 32 oz bottles that the manufactures ship out when you buy X amount of bottles), the prices range from $3.25-$4.25. I put a lid on mine and that is the biggest mistake to do because customers will try to get several uses out of them. If I give a cup away for free then I take the lid off. I still sell the packetts of lotion.

totaleclipse1 05-22-2006 11:32 AM

Re: lotion cups

depending on the lotions we charge $2-6

TRTSROCKS 05-22-2006 12:51 PM

Re: lotion cups

We only use cups when we are using one of the 16/32 oz bottles for a lotion promo and we do not charge. We sell packettes. I just don't like the look of cups sitting on the counter:)

shelsland 05-22-2006 01:07 PM

Re: lotion cups

We use cups for most everything except Tanology. Charge $2.50-$6.00. Fill most of the way up. Use the pumps we get with lotion orders. We used to keep them stocked under our shelves. Now we just keep a few filled at a time to help save space. As we sell them we just make a few more.

Re: lotion cups

we use 1oz cups filled half way with lids. usually $2-$5 depends on the cost. i use cups for DEVOTED pumps DS pumps face tan lotions, leg tan lotions and anything i need to get rid of. i also sell packettes but not if i have it in a pump.

devastoj 05-22-2006 04:09 PM

Re: lotion cups

I think packette sget really messy and I think you make more money selling cups.

Marca 05-22-2006 04:28 PM

Re: lotion cups

Yes, the packettes are difficult to tear and get the lotion out. The cups can be closed, but most people use them in one session. Only the facial products sometimes last several sessions.

The switch to cups gave us much more turnover than the packettes, mainly because of the pricing. People don't think much about spending € 2, but € 5-6 is something else.

Cups may not look as good as packettes (I agree completely), but if it sells better I'm all for it, LOL

Re: lotion cups

Since the new Worship Me doesn't come in packets, what do you all charge for a cup of it?

dcjjp2 05-22-2006 07:56 PM

Re: lotion cups

I ,like someone on here, give a cup to try from the 32 oz DS bottles I get free. Most will buy the lotion when they come out from tanning. I sell more bottles this way.

Re: lotion cups

Selling lotion by the ketchup cup = ghetto deluxe.

Same salons that sell lotions by the cup do skin typing like this: "Hey lady, what's you's skin type? Albino, Spic or Indian?"

Marca 05-23-2006 01:49 AM

Re: lotion cups

^ You like generalizations, right?

We don't have the Worship Me yet. Ray of Light we sell for € 2.

Unfortunately we never get 32 oz for free, so we don't give away cups easily.

Has anyone found a way to get around this? Like a better (more upscale) way to dispense the lotion without the crappy-looking salad dressing cup? Maybe a shot glass? jello-shot syringe? Espresso mug?

...or are you ok with the plastic cup?

devastoj 05-23-2006 10:45 AM

Re: lotion cups

you dont really need the pump to put lotions in a cup

dcjjp2 05-23-2006 10:47 AM

Re: lotion cups

I keep the 32 oz'ers under the counter and let new clients have a shot after the lotion talk if they are unwilling to buy any at that time, most come out and purchase either a sample or a full bottle when they see what it can do for you. I use it as a marketing tool.

i think using the cups is ok for that vs. Ghetto filled cups with sharpie markings to distinguish the different ones. We pump it at time of offer, not have several hundred in a wicker basket on the counter.
That is a turn off for me.

I'm not particularly fond of it, but customers don't seem to mind. Mostly they don't like to pay for fancy packaging and as it is for 'one use only', they use it and throw away. So although I would like a more decorative cup and are all open for ideas, I think it's difficult to find an affordable alternative.

I like the shot glass idea! :D

I fill my 1 oz cups half way up with Worship Me and sell it for $4.25

Re: lotion cups

Do you want to have to wash about 20 shot glasses daily. I know I don't. If you go to places like Sephora and stuff they sample in the same type of cup. If it is good enough for them, it is good enough for me to sample from.

Thanks!
I have been filling mine 1/2 way and selling it for $2.00

Re: lotion cups

I usually make the cups 20% more expensive than buying a bottle at once.

Do you do this like this or do you make the cups more/less expensive?

glotan 05-23-2006 01:43 PM

Re: lotion cups

These look alright, and not too pricey...

How much do the ketchup cups cost?

I'm even thinking washingnthem wouldn't be so bad... I REALLY like the concept of cupping but really don't want that look...

Marca 05-23-2006 01:46 PM

Re: lotion cups

Very nice Glotan!

The ketchup cost about $ 0,08 for me.

devastoj 05-23-2006 02:56 PM

Re: lotion cups

2.50 for 100 cups
2.50 for 100 lids

Whoooot! Big price difference...

*thinking*

Re: lotion cups

PS

I think selling lotion in a cup w/o a lid on it after it's been on the shelf for who knows how long is pretty gross.

bronzeman11 05-23-2006 06:21 PM

Re: lotion cups

Use cups exclusively now. No more pkt.'s. All considered more profit. 1 oz. cups about 7/8 full. We print our own labels w/ name , price & website. Prices range from $4 to $8.

eileen 05-23-2006 08:22 PM

Re: lotion cups

we sell worship me for $5 a little more then a half ounce cup with lid (now that i finally got the pumps). i also did a larger size for $8 (2 uses) and a bit cheaper. they are selling very well this week.

Marca 05-24-2006 01:41 AM

Re: lotion cups

If you don't mind me asking: if you sell 1/2 oz for about $ 5, is the price of a cup for a customer about the same as for a packette?

TanningEmporium 05-24-2006 07:59 AM

Re: lotion cups

We always keep cups, but they start at 2.50 and go up based on the brand of lotions...We keep the cups also for clients to share loitons but charge .05 for them.

aeltiger 05-24-2006 09:08 AM

Re: lotion cups

I have decided to have a "Lotion of the day". We sell 2 oz cups that are half full. If they decide to buy the lotion that day they can get a 10% discount. How does that sound?

aeltiger 05-24-2006 09:09 AM

Re: lotion cups

Is Designer Skin the only company that has 32oz pumps? I would love to do it with Simply Divine or something similar.
