Question Tanning and The Local Gym...

Hello all, I need some advice.
There is two gyms in my little town. One I hate the other is a raquet ball club. For the past couple years they have had a tanning bed. I mean it is old, we are talking a wolff original! They are starting to figure out they are opening themselves up to many liability issues involving this bed. Kids tanning, over exposure, cleanliness, etc. Not only that they are completly renovating to add a huge child gym/care and the bed is using valubale floor space. Really the bed is generating no income for them. It is just one of those added things they offered the other gym didn't.
Ok now to the what I need advice on. I was approached by one of ther personal trainers (my client also) about doing some sort of deal where their members would get memberships at my salon at a discount rate. In exchange I would be open to their gym population for marketing lotions, my therapist, etc. Plus full passes for my family and staff.
Here is what I am currently thinking, I don't want the gym controlling my money. I think it would be better if I handled everything re: tanning. My thought is ONLY offer EFT since the club is currently using the same method for there own memberships. How the club works it is they have enrollement and cancelations on the first of the month. So for example you cancel on the 15th you still have full use of the facility till the first. This eliminates having to do tons of paperwork and proratoing all month long. My thought was to EFT sign up forms at the club. The clients sign up and I pick the papers up on the 30th and get everyone set up to start on the 1st. Offer the EFT at a discounted rate on the base beds and offer upgrades at a slight discount as well as some products. This is the only way I could think of to keep it simple. Any suggestions? Sorry this went so long.

I do cross promo with my Gym and works out well. I offer their trainers, staff, and members 10% off services with a valid membership card. They give me free memberships for myself/ staff we use each others marketing in each others business.

Seems like you don't have much to lose. Work out a win win deal. Maybe even rent/sell them one of you beds.

Re: Tanning and The Local Gym...

Maybe you could give them vouchers that they give you cash for that they then give to their customers when they sign up. Then you have control of the money.

Re: Tanning and The Local Gym...

i think you should just offer a straight up discount.......although i do like the idea of the EFT but the discount is just alot easier! dont forget about the members who DONT do the EFT at the gym.....theres alot of them. good luck

Re: Tanning and The Local Gym...

Maybe try offering some special deal for those who come in with their gym card like 1/2 off YOUR eft enrollment. Keep it clean.

Re: Tanning and The Local Gym...

I am gonna work on the written proposal tonight. I am thinking of offereing the EFT, or for those who are anti EFT 10% off with membership card. This would make the EFT more desireable. I don't want to give them or lease them any equipment as someone mentioned. No one treats my equipment like me, since I make the lease payment. The goal is to get them in my shop for massages and other spa products. It goes beyond the tanning. Thanks all
