Rep Power: 130 | Bad Day. Errrrrrrrrr!!!! Just have to vent had a lady come in red hair light skin. Wanted to do a single walk in. I charged her, her $7 and I said how long do you think you should go? She said 20 min I said I'm sorry I am not comfortable with you tanning that long. I will compromise with you go in for 10 with a sticker if you get no color I will give you your money back. She yelled at me and said I been doing 30 min everywhere else. I informed her the bulbs are new and it just wouldn't be a good idea to go that long. I pointed out that she signed a release form which clearly states that she will listen to the advice given by the staff re: equipment, and would avoid overexposure. She huffed and insisted on getting her money back. I gave it back. I said I was sorry I couldn't let her tan that long I didn't want to be responsible. She left mad. My other clients were in the lobby and said what an idiot I been tanning here for a month and I only do 15 in that bed. Just a bad day thanks for listening |

She came in and said, I haven't been here for a while because of the stories I've been hearing about skin cancer etc... Then she wanted to tan in my 200 w standup for full time. I said " I don't feel comfortable with that, remember last spring when you said you don't burn, and I did what you asked? This time I think we should do it my way...pout, pout.. I said if you want to get tanned in one day, why don't you try my Magic Tan...? I turned a $16.00 visit into my combo Magic Tan/Triangle. $35.00 Then she said, Oh I don't use protective eyewear...(when I put her in ther Triangle) OMG... |

Rep Power: 107 | Re: Bad Day. You did the right thing glow. Nobody wants to see a potential client walk out angry, but you cannot over expose them just to make them happy for the moment. People like that are the type that are just never going to be easy to please. She was angry because you didn't allow her to set her own tanning time, but if you had let her go in for the full 20 minutes and she over exposed, she would have been angry because you let her burn! Just sleep good tonight knowing that you ran your business like a professional and it's people like you that is helping build a better reputation for our industry. :) |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Bad Day. I would have done the same thing Glow, but the "i told ya so" is pretty funny too. LOL, i feel like i can relate to this soooo well. I got red hair, and HAD light skin, and when i was going to my first salon that had OKAY beds with only 32 bulbs with like 100 watt bulbs, and when i was at like 17 minutes, she accidentally put in 19 minutes and i burned like a MOFO!! And i had been going for like 1.5 months. I have no idea how she could have lasted... |

Rep Power: 21 | Re: Bad Day. First thing I learned, I never ask the client how long they should go. It opens up the can of worms of this arguement. I ask when the last time they tanned, and then I tell them what I suggest for their tanning session. Normally no problem, they come to you for a service, not TIME. I let them go, however on their waiver form if and only if they wont listen, on their waiver I write, "Client advised to do 10 minutes in our XXX bed, client was informed of all risks up to and including death. Client wishes to do XXXX time after given advice. Make them SIGN IT! That way they cant come back and say oh geee you burnt me. BAH! Then the best part is when you set them for the full time and they turn the bed off at the time you suggested!!! |

Rep Power: 107 | Re: Bad Day. I do the same, most of the time. I had a client yesterday who has been tanning regularly at a local gym, which is temp. closed due to a fire. She has been doing the max. in there units. I suggested 10, she wanted twenty. Got her down to 15 and warned her a burn would not be me responsibility. She came in today and was a little pink around the "edges". te he Yeah, 20. |

Rep Power: 52 | Re: Bad Day. ^^^^ AGREE!!! ^^^^^^ I'd never ask a customer what they think......just after gathering all there info. make a conservative judgement and suggest that is what your comf. w/ them starting at. Sometimes we can be fooled and i'll have the " i know i look fair but i have a hard time tanning & i really never burn". That's always a tough call but i'll never increase more than 2 minutes from my original judgement. I'll also have customers ask me that if they wear a sticker and don't see "enough color" when they come out will they get there money back? I'll tell them " no, tanning is a process" and that if they come back in no more than 48 hrs. and see no color i'll make sure there happy......and i will. But.............man sometimes i'd love to microwave those SOB'S!!!!! |
