Rep Power: 21 | Re: LOOKS I know that my customers not only enjoy my salon because it is so clean that you can eat off the floor if you want, they are always complimenting me on the decor and especially the color scheme on the walls and such. So my vote is yes, they look for other things other than cleanliness of a salon. |

Rep Power: 28 | Re: LOOKS i believe so much in the decor! we had a lot of people telling us the same thing. including a salon owner/distributor. she tried to tell us that decor didn't matter and either did the beds. we went the opposite way and put a lot into our decor and choose beds that worked well, but really look nice as well! go with your gut feeling... some people just don't want to spend the money, and only want to make it. we put together a salon that WE would want to tan in, and it works since WE spend all day and night there! the payoff is the clients compliment us all the time and appreciate the work we put into it all! |

Rep Power: 23 | Re: LOOKS You only get one chance to make a first impression. That much is true. an worn out decor and run down salon can be clean as a whistle...and not feel clean & fresh if the paint is not crisp and clean. If the decor is some what updated. ..even if it just a new desk a few new plants and a fresh coat of paint on the lobby walls. Even little inexpensive touchs make a difference that you are trying you just need more time. JMHO Just let a few of them know what your long term plans are and tackle one major project a year. Set a goal for each year..Just remember Function & form always before decor. After you get the electric and HVAC updated Signage, Front desk, New PC -NOW Lobby/hall flooring- say - 2007( late spring ) New unit late fall 2007 New room/lobby furniture- you can find here and there.. don't sweat the small stuff just budget for the deals when they come up. Consider getting to know some of your new client you might be able to barter some of these things I personally barters for The all the Large signage including my price menu--that was beauitful I might add!! lol Mirrors in the rooms & bathroom, carpet cleanings, lobby furniture & bed head rests...to name a few. Now if you only have a budget and time to paint & decorate some of the salon start with the lobby and upgrade rooms~ work your way to the base beds...when time and budget allows. JMHO

We get compliments all the time. I think it says something about how much you care. Cheesey? Maybe. I'm cheesey. |

Or do you mean the original poster? OHH and I completely agree.. do what you can afford and only when you can afford it. My suggestion is to try to barter as much as you can. As for the PC...it was made for security purposes same goes for software, timers cameras...etc... Hence-- the function be covered before the decor takes bite out of the budget. With a PC and loses down to MINIMUM ---then the money will be there to complete teh rest of the wish list( if you will) like the decor. Having said that I am not negating the need to do quick fixes like a coat of paint a a new lobby desk or a counter. Just try to barter it if you can..You never know what your clients are willing to do unless you leave tyhe door open. I was able to barter a cruise....advertising..you name it. Try it you might like it.

Rep Power: 0 | Re: LOOKS Do what feels right to you. I am probably the only tanning salon in our area right now with footballs hanging from the ceiling and pennants on the windows :) You know what...our clients love it. We get soooo....many compliments on the creative things we come up with. This coming weekend is our big "kickoff the tanning season" promo...$1 tan (per level), we will be offering a "Steelers" special and "Seahawks" special, door prizes...should be a fun & busy weekend. Good equipment with proper maintenance, CLEAN, nice decor, great customer service and creativity, don't overspend your budget to where you can't enjoy what you are doing. It is hard work but it is also fun & rewarding :) Good luck! |

Rep Power: 130 | Re: LOOKS I agree the place I bought was quite dated. And the previous owners said I would go under with all the "renovations" by renovation I mean new paint, tile, and lobby furniture. We have doubled their previous years numbers and added quite abit to the already exisiting data base. One peice of advice, I decorated my shop very similar to my home. I am so glad I did. Since I am here more than there. Good luck it sounds like it is going to be great |
