Valentines Day - tanTALK

Okay, I need some advice folks... I have recently opened new local with 7 Ergoline beds and spray tan facilities... nice new and elegantly decorated... There is one other tan place here, population of my town only around 7,000 or so.. my prices went up because of my move and new beds, and now my competition is running a 1mo. unlimited for 12.99.... unreal.... anyway,,, should I match this just to get the buisness? I didn't think I'd avertise it as a special, but if anyone asked, I thought I'd match it... Also, I need to know of a great Valentines Day special... so if you can help, I'd appreciate all the imput.....

Well, I sorta decided that if it was a $ issue, even if I went lower on my 1 mo. they'd still tan over there.... I know there is a Winter Ball comming for some of the High Schoolers, and since I am wanting all the buisiness I can get for Febuary , March, and so on, I thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to match it for those that asked..... But no,, my beds are wonderful and so is my salon,,, nothing ever been in this one horse town like the salon I've opened up, I realize that I've taken alot of their buisness and this is a last ditch effort on thier part to get what they can too. I just get tired of the other owner giving me a hard time, and maybe it's just to **** her off.... not sure.....okay, how 'bout Valentines day... no comments on that? Still need advice...

It's a lot easier to lower your prices than raise them. Remember that. I wouldn't do it. What is that place like?? Open an extra hour or two beyond his hours. Something. I just can't see how you could pay the bills with $12.99! Anywhere. JMO.

They are very un-friendly people, most folks in this town seriously dislike the owner. when I bought Suntanz, it was the follower, my beds were old, and the building sucked,,,, I built the buisness up so much, just with personality, service and products, kept the bulbs changed, and then decided to step out on a limb and buy 2 ergoline 300's they went over dramaticly... I then added spray tan,, only one in town, and then buisness just kept growing, so then I really bit the bullet and bought 5 new ambition ergoline beds and had a new building built.. so beautiful... reminds you of going on a carribean vacation and staying at a very nice luxury hotel... so nice...... anyway,,, braggin' on my place...... Their facilities consist of older sundash units and one super sundash bed.... my entry level bed puts their sundash to shame.... the ambiance at my place is ooh la la.... I have big baja ceiling fans,,, wall sconces, drop down light over custom built counter,,,, and recessed lights to shine on my lotion.. they all have dimmers so i can change the ambiance easily.... I guess I'm just worried... I want so bad to have an unbelievable season this year, and the other owner is constantly giving me bad hype...... I dont want them to go under, because that would open a door for someone else to come in and do bigger than me,,,, I just want my fair share plus some.........lol

DON'T LOWER YOUR PRICING!!!!!!!!
Price is never an issue, if it is you need to reassess your staff (obviously they can't sell)
promote the fact you are simply the best. people like to brag they utilize only the best possible facilities in any factor of their lives.
Be arrogant with your marketing, we over the last 12 months have gone as far as stating in our radio advertising, " If you want 2nd rate tanning, go somewhere else".
in the last 12 months our business has exploded, in both net revenue and volume sales.
It pays to believe in the excellence of your business model.

I agree price is not an issue. We had a woman come and really complained about our prices and I said ‘You don’t have to tan here. You can go to xyz down the street.” She said “ No I like it here.”

Do .25 tans the whole month of Feb maybe you could work on volume?

I wouldn't lower your prices, they want you to lower your standards. NO way!!!!
If nothing else you'll weed out the bottomfeeders and get the best of the bunch.
