Rep Power: 28 | Since we're in a small town with numerous spas, and hair salons (as well as several other tanning salons) seems the nail tech, massage therapist idea is ridiculous. I've been looking around for something that is different to sell in our salon. I don't want something that the locals can get at Walmart or Goodys. Last year I dipped teddy bears for the holidays and they went over really big. I had lots of orders but soon got burned out doing them. This year I"m thinking about making the cloth covered photo albums and jean purses out of old jeans. Not sure how they'll go over but it may be worth a try. |

Rep Power: 20 | There are a lot of ideas -- tooth whiteners, go to Costco and by a lot of men's hair coloring for the guys (this actually sells really well when a man's on a makeover binge), gum and candy, drink vending machine, an ATM, a massage chair (something for hubby to do while waiting for the wife), a service to steam clothes while they're waiting, etc. Selling small stuff pays off big because of convenience. "I'm here, I might as well buy it here." Some owners get pretty creative. I know of one who does valet parking, another who sells those over-the-counter foot orthotics, another who's got an arrangement with a car wash in the strip mall so you get your car washed while you're waiting, etc. The nail tech/massage therapist/whatever idea is simply that you rent unused space to someone else for extra revenue. When I owned a martial arts studio, I would lease it out to aerobics instructors and dance instructors and made a ton of money. |
