Rep Power: 28 | From some of the posts I can guess that alot are in small towns vs. large metro areas. It is interesting to see the differences between small vs. metro areas as far as packages, decor, beds offered, etc.. What are the challenges of your particular market? What works? What dosen't? I'd be curious to know. |

Rep Power: 21 | We are in a small community and can't say that we face any different challenges. Obviously we don't see the volume of tanners that maybe a metro area would. We have our busy days and slow days just like every other salon. We may not have as many units as a larger salon but do well. We also make it a point to stay on top of what is happening in the industry and bring that to our clients. Just because they are in a small commnity does not mean that they shouldn't have choices. For us it is like being the big fish in a little pond. We are consistently seeing new clients that had tanned at larger salons in larger markets that just didn't offer the quality that we do. We are all about the customer here. We promote what we believe to be the best and as that changes so will we. |

Rep Power: 117 | Mikeytan stated everything that I would say. Most small town tanning salons (mostly hair salons and video stores) make their clients clean their own beds. My customers were shocked when I opened and I offered them the FULL service and products that the Chains offer. I try to keep up on the latest Fad's. Customers really appreciate when you know their name.......I hear that one ALOT! |

Rep Power: 28 | That's awesome to hear Mikeytan. I know that I just traveled this past weekend to my home area that is mainly a small town in the mountains of Pa and it got me to thinking (after I tanned at a smallish place) The owner didn't know basically the difference between HP and LP tanning (I asked her if they had HP and she said surely, and pointed me to an Ergoline 450) HP tanning probably just wouldn't fly there anyway, but it was worth a shot. The place was selling candles/swimsuits/purses/CD's/Cellphones etc.... In my market that just wouldn't fly. |

Rep Power: 117 | dc, you compare HP beds to metro areas but I'm really confused because I have a girl that travels all over the U.S. and tells me that she hates when she pays big bucks for an HP bed in a classy salon and then comes home to my smaller salon and gets just as much color if not more. I've personally never been in a True HP bed but I don't think I would pay the money to anyway. I'm as dark as can possibly be without being black and I only tan once a week and once on the weekend. I use an inexpensive lotion and I am way darker than the girl who just got back the other day to tell me all about the tanner she paid $25.00 to lay in that misted her with water and had fragrance misting in the air. Yes, these beds look very impressive with all the bells and whistles but big or small town, I don't see how these beds pay themselves off. I'd love to own one, but people would laugh if I said 25.00 per tan in my town. |

Rep Power: 21 | At our salon we are focused on tanning. There were a lot of options of add on sales, if you will, but we opted not to go that route. I am still up in the air on HP, will it take or not in my market! That I am not sure! I do know no one within a 30 mile radius has HP at this time. We like to offer the best to our customers. Best serivice, best education, best results and best product. I come from a family that has been instrumental in bringing many businesses to our community that most never expected to see here. They themselves have a business they run that has a reputation for being top notch on quality, customer service, and knowledge. We see people coming into town from 45 miles away to do business with them because they see the quality there and love the smaller town customer service. I have molded my business around that principle. Offer quality product, top notch facilities, and excellent customer serivce. With those 3 things you can succeed in any market. |
