Hi all,

I am seabro, opened UK salon in feb 05. 2 Vertical, 1 Horiz, 1 spray machine (manual).

Currently seeing approx 10 people per day, charging 50p per min, average spend £3.85, average duration 8.67 minutes.

We have 804 customers registered on computer. and have traded on 175 days.

We are currently running at a loss. We did an offer recently for 2 weeks. Offer was half price tanning, daily customer turnover almost doubled and customers went on for a bit longer so takings stayed arounnd the same.

I was thinking of putting signs up on the nearby main road since locals are still only seeing us for the first time.

I did a 10,000 leaflet drop a few months ago but i was ripped off and it was demotivating regarding advertising.

Friends tell me the first year is difficult and the second year is usually an improvement?

Any feedback on the way I am running this business from you experienced people are welcome!

Entering year 3(Season 2) with breaking even and a little profit... Season 3 is when it usually happens. I have @3K in clients in my database currently

thanks dcjjp2, your post helps put things into perspective! I was feeling a bit down about workin my butt off to make a loss but i guess if i look at the bigger picture things dont look so bad...

When I did my business plan I figured that it would take 3 years to make a profit I broke even in year 2 & 3, as I approach year 4 I will have all my leases paid off and then will make some $$$. If you don't have atleast 8 to 10 units it's hard to make a living.

I don't know what your weather is like there , but for most of us it is now the slow season and it will pick up again in Jan, my best months are feb to July.
