Rep Power: 51 | Tanning's good, tanning's bad... I went to the Dr. yesterday and she notes that I'm on Depo and apparently there's some controversy that it may cause Osteoperosis. I told her I'm not worried because I own a tanning salon for my vitamin D and increased my calcium. She didn't have much to say. Then she says "and so then you know about the whole tanning issue" and I said "yes but why is it okay for someone with acne, psoriasis, and other skin conditions to tan? Are they then exempt from cancer?". She said "you're right, we do suggest it, it helps with their skin." and shrugged. SO THERE! That's the second time she's nicely told me about the possible dangers of tanning but then I need more vitamin D because of something she prescribed to me. It's one big circle. In the end I stumped the doctor and that's all that matters. |

Rep Power: 143 | Here's one..............I had a customer call me yesterday amazed at what a surgeon told her when she went to have her eyes checked and inquire on the lazor surgery. During the exam, she asked if her eyes have been damaged from not wearing eyewear in tanning beds, in the past. (Until she came to my salon, no other salons told her how important it is to wear it) He told her she is fine in the tanning beds as long as SHE CLOSES HER EYES!!! Stunned, she asked, "so the protective eyewear is not important??" He replied again, "as long as you close your eyes,..you will be fine."" WTF?? |

Rep Power: 23 | Yah, i mentioned to my derm one time about tanning. She proceeded to tell me the "dangers" of tanning. Said she was obligated to tell me. She said as long as I only tan ONCE A MONTH I would PROBABLY BE OKAY. Whatever. |

Rep Power: 0 | You would think they would encourage bad tanning practices if anything because if you were to actually get cancer or something the doctors and pharm companies would make an extreme amount of $$$ of ya. If an eye doctor ever says that closing your eyes is adequate to protect them in a tanning bed, do the old shadow test. Have him close his eyes and look up at the light in the room while waving his hand in front of his face. He'll see a shadow of his hand from that weak light penetrating his eyelid. Ask him again if he thinks a much stronger lamp in a tanning bed could do some damage. |

In our litigious society today, any kind of recommendations from a professional bring up the potential for a lawsuit. Is it right? No. Sad but true in lots of cases. I think you're on to something there. |
