Rep Power: 0 | While out tonight the girl that owns the other Salon in my city came up to me and said hey i heard you were opening up a salon, I told her yes and she told me if i did she would start all kind of rumors about my salon. Im not worried because I am very known in our city and already have one other business that has been opened for 15 years. If this girl is scared that I am going to take away from her, maybe she should look and see what kind of place she has. I use to tan there but now I drive 25 mintues to tan somewhere else, the salon is alot cleaner and nicer with better beds. She has already lost some tanners to the other salon that is 25 mintues away. What do you all think I should do if she starts anything with me or about my salon. |

You could keep notes about her, prepare a case about slander, but for the most part it'd be a waste of your time and energy. However, every mean and nasty thing she does will fall back on her 100 times. Her customers will see her for the mean person she is and will leave her when they discover that you are on the high road, are not nastry, are not all those horrible things she says. And when she sets up some dirty tricks (you know, sends her friends out to do things like canned tuna fish poured into the bottom of your stand up unit.... and gross stuff left behind the beds, carpets stained, and that kind of stuff) be prepared to accept that she's going to do these little things to you to make you just as miserable as she will be once you are up and running. I've never understood how in this business we can't get along, and why we have to make enemies instead of establishing loose partnerships. I'd rather be friendly and upfront with my competition so I can keep an eye on them.... |

Rep Power: 24 | We have even had high school girls come up to us and say mean nasty rude things and I don't understand as they have absolutely no interest in the other salon at all.... We just smile and say "Really?" |

Rep Power: 24 | Just mind your own P's & Q's , like Grandma use to say , they are going to talk about you no matter what, my competitor & I laugh at the stuff they tell me then tell her as they jump from one salon to another. It's just human nature, but don't get on the loser ban wagon yourself !! |

Rep Power: 68 | Slap her with a defamation suit if you can prove it in court. Just don't sink to that level and fight fire with fire, maintain the high ground. If you start hearing things from customers or the grape vine, have your attorney send her a sternly worded threat of law suit if she doesn't cut the crap. That's usually enough. And whatever you do, don't let her get into a position where she looks like the victim of a bully. Good luck. |
