Rep Power: 24 | I pretty much like everything about SalonTouch, put there are some things that I don't like...when someone comes in to by a package for them & someone else I have to make it into two transaction's, I have EFT clients that get 20% off on all Purchases, but when I put something on sale at more than 20% off it won't give it to them unless we go in & change their discount but then you have to remember to go back in & change it back to the 20%. |

Rep Power: 0 | I dont like how suntouch will not let me discount more than one thing at a time. When I have customers buying several things at a discount I have to highlight one, enter my code, enter the discount...repeat....repeat...wasting valuable time. I understand that it is supposed to prevent discounting things that should not be discounted but then when someon with an EFT buys something it discounts everything automatically (even stuff it shouldnt like drinks) so that kind of undermines the whole concept |

Rep Power: 0 | The best software out there is Sunlync. If you want to share a package you simply click "Share Package" and put in who it is being shared with. Sunlync is also AMAZING with EFT. It blows away the others out there and is well worth the price! |

Rep Power: 0 | Sorry kmb6013 I have sunlync and as a computer programer / salon owner it is not that great I am building this software after using sunlync, and a few other software packages. Mine will be to the point with alot less agrivation. Myself having a page and a half of things that sunlync should be able to do and ways to make it simpler on the user. |

Rep Power: 0 | kmb6013...Listen, I am with you. i-tan-u has not been able to supply me with an ounce of his problems. Evidently he is avoiding my post under his other remarks as I feel he is trying to see if there is any interest in hiis hidden agenda of selling software to others. As for him being a "programmer" so am I, my friends, my staff, their mothers, fathers, pets, goldfish... You get the point. Everyone who has ever gone to a command prompt is an expert. Sorry to trash you (i-tan-u) but your remarks have no validity. Run a search under Helios, Suntouch and see the remarks and then look at SunLync. The users love it and the support. |

Rep Power: 0 | Well, lets talk languages, then... There is a really simple way of determining if a person is really a "programmer" or simply a couch critic with a little too much exposure to Byte magazine. What language does everyone use? So many people on this forum have claimed to be programmers, we must be able to cover just about every language imaginable--so I'll start. I started out with Applesoft BASIC back in the day. Later, I got into Microsoft QBasic/Quick Basic. I've also dabbled in Data General Extended Basic 5.1 and Business Basic. Now, on to the compiled languages. I've had some passing experience with COBOL, and thought it was OK. COBOL programmers know why women hate periods. The first time I wrote a "hello" program, it was on punch cards. Really, I've always preferred the Clipper/DBase compatible languages (for PCs, anyway). Yes, they are verbose, but so am I. I can write quick and dirty programs with clipper, without much hassle. Overhead is a problem...It's easy to create a 400KB "Hello" program... I've been using RPG on the AS/400 recently--which is the exact opposite of verbose. I guess that would be terse. Being a positional language, there is no indention of loops, making it a bit confusing and difficult to read. Anyone who knows anything about RPG understands what I'm saying. I've had some exposure to Algol, but the last computer I saw that had THAT compiler needed to be loaded from a paper tape...so I wouldn't call myself proficient. I've dealt with "fixing" or "modifying" programs in 8080/8085 assembler. Again, I wouldn't consider myself proficient, but I've got the assembler, and all the books, so I could do it again if and when I have to. I learned Delphi, 7 or 8 eight years ago--hated it--hated Windows in general--not much more to say. My visual Basic experience ended the same way. Though I thought it was easier to use than Delphi (not having a real Pascal background), it was windows, so I don't use it anymore. Now, my partner is a C nazi. Real C, that is, not this visual crap everyone seems so fond of. He'll code circles around anyone I know... He's started to show me up by writing C code on the AS/400 (which is generally regarded as MY toy)... He's got a background in DG BASIC, as well as Cannon BASIC, with which he wrote a successful client accounting program in the mid '80s. I almost forgot Pick...well, I tried to forget pick... So...who's next? Our front end software will be in C, with a host package (later) in RPG. I've not picked those for any specific reason, other than our own proficiency. As I stated in the other thread, I'm writing this for our own use and will be satisfied with that--if someone else wants to buy it, so much the better. I will say this, however--and I'm not trying to slam anyone's software in particular--I have almost 10 years of experience selling POS and inventory control systems. I've seen the best of the best and the worst of the worst, and our software will fill in some of the general retail features that I've found lacking in many tanning salon systems. |
