I am training for a marathon, so I workout almost everyday. Summer is coming soon, as well as several weddings, that I would like to have some color for. In the past I have tried many self-tanners (but never a spray-on) and they sweat off wherever I sweat or fabric touches the skin (like around my jogbra, etc). Gross, I know. So I end up very patchy. I have never had success tanning from the sun/beds in the past (redhair/blue eyes/freckles/very fair). Any advice?

I do the Airbrush at my salon. Sweat does not mix well with my solution either. A little sweat can be "dabbed" without any noticable marks. I would not get sprayed if you sweat alot as you are probley going to have the same results. Sorry!

Thanks very much. Do you have many customers that have just their legs airbrushed? I was thinking that may be an option.

If you are going to running a lot, outdoors, in the sun, why not just use moderation and get a real UV induced tan that will add to your body's natural protection against UV over-exposure, why paint yourself? Just curious.

I do a lot of running and I do Mystic sometimes to get extra color when I think I need it (because, done right, it looks great and accentuates the mild tan I'm able to achieve with my skin type). Once I've taken your initial shower after the Mystic (waiting at least 4 hours), I've never noticed any problems with sweat taking it off. But when working out, those areas that rub strongly against the skin can have problems. In that case, I don't think you really "sweat off" the Mystic solution as much as exfoliate dead skin cells which were previously pretty colorless and have now been colored by DHA. Maybe with lower grade self- tanning products , you do sweat it off, I don't know.

All I can say is that I would Mystic for the special occasion, then do a heavy exfoliation when it starts to get patchy from working out. You can also try to even it out (or try just doing legs) with the Mystic "Perfection" spray. If you can't tan in a bed (even just a leg tanner), then there really isn't much else I know that you can do.

I agree with the above, soak in a tub before you exfoliate vigerously will really help (and be sure that whatever you use to exfoliate doesn't have any mineral oil or petroleum in it that will bind to the skin and prevent the tan from being absorbed on the skin.) Do all the prep that is recommended (waxing, shaving, etc.) I'd have you remain cooled while you are drying for a bit longer than usual before getting dressed and give you the warning that for the next 6 hours you need to remain cool while you are letting the DHA do it's thing. No exercise, no shower, no slaving over a hot stove. Yup, that's the ticket... get a spray tan and go home for a cool drink and some major TV time for six hours. Sounds good to me.
We offer partial body spray's for $15.00, face spray for $10.00, and full body for $25.00 and we give a brochure to our customers about how to take care of the tan after it is applied. In California we get the girls coming in for spot sprays (new dresses, wearing low hiphuggers, have a new backdoor tatoo, wearing shorts, etc.) When they call for appointments to have this done we also give them a full description of the before application directions. Our turbobronzer by California Tan is a serious money maker for us, and keeps us very busy towards the end of the week. We sell on the basis of the value of having a "customized" airbrushing instead of stepping into a car-wash machine that gives less than perfect results.
