Rep Power: 21 | After 3 years I have finally decided that I will no longer furnish goggles. I will however have them available for purchase along with the disposables, also for purchase in case the tanner would happen to forget their own. I am sick and tired of my goggles walking out of here. I guess these people think I get goggles for free or I can just afford to give them each a pair every time they come to tan. Illlinois state law does not require the salon to furnish them free of charge, but we do have to have them available for purchase, so hand over the cash people because now YOU are buying the goggles! Besides being tired of so many pair being stolen, I just think it is so much safer using your own goggles, even though we do thoroughly sanitize ours. I just put signs up in each room yesterday announcing that they have one week to purchase their own, and then they must show us their goggles before they are allowed to tan each time. So far, I have been surprised at the response. Many clients are surprised that I haven't done it sooner. There will still be those who will have a problem with it, but it is for their own good. |

Rep Power: 0 | We switched two months ago. I contacted the Winkease company and they sent me some promotional brochures that had photo's of eye infections, and some information about why it's better to use disposables. I ask people if they share toothbrushes and equate the sharing of community goggles to that. Once my people have seen the eye-infections they start buying their own goggles without complaint. I put the stuff that the Winkease company gave me on the countertop right where the customer stops so that it came between us at the front door..... most of my people just say "eewe...." and bought theirs right away. It's better to have the promotional stuff sitting out BEFORE you make the switch and cuts down on the complaints, and yeah, you were smart to put up the notice. We put up the notice the month before we did it to give people a warning, and during that month we made a lot of sales of goggles. During the first month a lot of people complained.... even after reading all the notices, but it slowly stopped. We also kept some goggles for sale (yeah, people wanted to buy up my "used" goggles) and we kept three goggles for the die-hards to borrow. On the ones we now loan, we have customers sign a "loan" sheet, and leave me their car keys until they replace my goggles. After a couple weeks of that, people stopped borrowing and starting buying. I thought I'd lost a couple of customers on this thing, but they came back. My salon tends to get the customers that the bigger salons just don't want (for whatever reason) and it takes a while to get them educated and used to changes. |

Rep Power: 20 | If they are going to complain about a pair of $2.50 goggles then perhaps you dont need them as clients. They should be happy that you have supplied goggles for this long. Frankly, I would never want to use someone elses goggles even if they were "sanitized". GROSS! Good luck with the change. Expect to hear alot of complaints and have some catchy phrase ready to stifle that talk. |

Rep Power: 21 | $2.50? I've made it easy on them...I only charge .50 above my cost just so they CAN'T complain! .25 pair for disposables. Like we all know, there are always those who will complain, no matter how many gross pictures you show them. I have had the eyewear posters up in the tanning rooms for months now, and most say "GROSS" but then still refuse to wear them. Eyewear has always been a requirement here, but once behind closed doors if they want to be stupid and not wear them then so be it. Now they at least have to SHOW me their goggles before they are even allowed into the room. |

Rep Power: 0 | We stopped lending goggles 2 years ago….So many got stolen.. Now when they have no eyewear I ask them “Which ones you would like this, this or this one-they are 1$ one time use” As usually people paying 5$ with no complains. Eyewear is a good money maker . |

Rep Power: 20 | Leave it to Neon to make a comparision where no one else would. Laying on a piece of sanitized acrylic is alot different than putting goggles on your eyes that just came from a jar of 90% sanitizer solution / 10% gunk that came off the goggles after the last person. I havent seen a jar yet that wipes the goggles off after each use. Have you seen a phone after someone uses it? Its all waxy and has dead skin. Same thing with goggles for me. I would never use someone elses goggles and not to knock the salons that offer this service but why not make money selling the goggles? In one weekend we sold over 100 pairs of Peepers and made over a hundred bucks profit. That paid our phone bill for the month. |

Rep Power: 107 | Good job! Do you find it a pain when you bring your own dinnerwear to the restaurant and scissors and comb to the barbershop? Of course companies like Winkease and others have gross posters to show you what COULD happen by using sanitized goggles? To sell their products. Properly santized/cleaned googles should never be a problem. As for theft, that's up to you to take control over. |
