Rep Power: 0 | I'm new here, so if this has already been covered please excuse my faux pas I'm new to the world of tanning and have been going for a couple of weeks now. The end result was originally to get a base tan since I'll be visiting Australia and I wanted a head-start on a tan (I'll still be using SPF45!). However, I'll probably keep coming back even after Australia since it makes me feel good Anyway, my question is about the functionality of the different types of beds. I've heard that a stand-up unit is quicker and better for a base tan, although I don't know why that is or whether that's even true. I've also heard that the beds are better for a deep tan. Would it be better for me to focus my efforts in a stand-up unit, or be patient and lay down? |

Rep Power: 0 | Industry stats, thru research, indicate less than 10% of tanners prefer a stand-up. Preference is a matter of personal choice. Since the masses enjoy the relaxation a bed/laydown offers, this is the prefered choice. The difference in results is minimal, I never heard of any reports indicating which is better. That said, It would appear the bed offers a better tan since the tanner is closer to lamps. It could be argued a standup offers less whitespots/pressure points from the body/skin pressed on the acrylics. In 20 years of tanning, I never used a standup, nor own one..and never experienced 'white spots' or had any client complain..nor never asked for a standup. With all the latest in lamp technology, some beds and booths offer 7minute tan times, so a standup is not necessary quicker. Its all in the lamps and ballast used. An equal tan can be achieved in either one. |

Rep Power: 0 | My customers comment that once they have used the standups and get used to the idea, I have 10 minute, that they like them better as they feel cleaner, don't sweat and lay in it and don't slip around on the accrylics. I personally like the stand ups better for these reasons also |

Rep Power: 21 | In my salon the stand up is just as popular as all the lay down beds. Clients like to use it at least a couple of times a month to help out with pressure points, and help out in places where gravity doesnt help laying down. Try it and see how you like it. |

Rep Power: 0 | thats weird, meep, I find it opposite for myself. I've used a stand-up a few times because the beds gave me white spots on my pressure points, but I later fixed that by just flipping over, or shifting my body weight in the laydown bed. I dont find I get much color in the stand up. But, that could just be the standup I was using..but I find it a LOT faster in a quality bed. I was once told by a salon owner that if you use a medium strength bed, that you get a deeper tan, something about the rays penetrating deeper into the skin, and therefore the tan lasts longer than in a high strength bed....can anyone on the forum tell me if this is fact or fiction? Not sure if it's true? _________________ [ This Message was edited by: robust365 on 2005-02-19 15:36 ] |

Rep Power: 29 | Stand up is better BY FAR. NOW, here's the problem. They are expensive to relamp, most fill them with TRASH LAMPS or "rotate" (?????) the lamps in the booth (whatever that does). I have people that tan in what are SUPPOSED TO BE the strongest standups in the area and they ALL COME RUNNING TO MY BOOTH. My booth has some AGED VHRs so I KNOW my comp. is running TRASH in their booths. Some days it's my most popular, some days it doesn't get used. |

Rep Power: 107 | Industry stats?? Okay. My stand-up, a Sundazzler is very popular. Not as relaxing as a bed session, but provides a better overall tan, no pressure points. No flipping in beds, which can and will eventually result in some client cracking an acrylic. Grrrrrr. |
