Rep Power: 0 | Would regular visits to the local pool ruin the effects of indoor tanning? I try not to tan on days I go to the pool. In fact, I try not to get wet for at least 12h after tanning. Even with these precautions, I'm wondering whether chlorine or bromine will strip my skin quicker. Thoughts? |

Rep Power: 21 | You should not tan on days you go to the pool. You would put yourself at risk for a serious burn. Chlorine is very drying to your skin which is why I would recomemned rinsing off after gettin out of the pool and applyihg a step 3 moisturizer . I do not see how it would change your tan unless it is a Spray on Tan. When your skin develops color it is within the inner layers of the skin, your skin produces a substance called melanin as you tan these browning cells develop color. As far as getting wet after tanning I always tell my clients to wait a couple of hours if using a lotion with a bronzer (added self tanner) in it to allow it to develop. |

Rep Power: 25 | As a longtime swimmer... Chlorine is VERY drying to the skin! As your skin dries, it exfoliates, and the top layer - where the tan is - goes with it. So yes - it will impact your tan. However, in my opinion and experience, shouldn't put you at any risk for burning. But if you DID get overexposed in the tanning bed (or sun), yes, the drying nature will make it more uncomfortable. And agree with riverbrat - no sense in using a bronzer lotion as it'll just wash off (and even a dual bronzer with DHA will wear off much faster). Won't hurt, but won't help. I'd make sure I wash WELL when you get out of the pool to get all the chlorine off. A good step 3 body wash made for tanning would be best - Cal Tan sells "total submersion" that I like - sure other lotion lines may have something similar. Then follow up with a good step 3 moisturizing lotion made for tanners. For sunless - all these same things are true (exfoliation) as well as the fact that chlorine is a bleaching agent. It will definitely lighten and shorten the tan quality. |

Rep Power: 107 | Chlorine not only dries the skin, it can be a bleach, look at what it can do to your swimwear. Takes steps to protect yourself against the effects of chlorine. Moisturize often, often! And perhaps right before you hit the pool, and right after........ And not a cheap drugstore lotion either!! |
