Ive been tanning on and off for two years now. There was a small white spot that developed in the middle of my boobs on my chest. The more I tanned, the larger the white spot got and all the skin around it got darker. I havnt tanned in months, but when I wear a low cut shirt its very noticable. Atleast I think so... Right now im pale, but the spot is even paler.. Im afraid if I start tanning again, the spot will grow even bigger and the spots will be very very notable.. what do I do? how do I go about evening my skin color?

Purdy what you have probably is a fungus. You did not get it from the tanning bed - i repeat you did not get it from the tanning bed. It becomes visible due to the heat and light. Go and get you some head and shoulders shampoo and rub it into the spot just like it was lotion. Do this three times a day until the spot is gone. If this is what we call a (sun spot) and you want to get rid of it quicker. My suggestion would be to call a laser hair removal place. I know that some are equipped to deal with this problem. The head and shoulders thing could take up to 3 weeks to get it to clear up.
I am sure my talktalk friends will be able to give other advice and give the medical term for this. Remember even if a doctor tells you you got this from a tanning bed you did not. I am sure he can give you an expensive topical lotion that wont work any better than head and shoulders. I repeat and stay with me because i see this a few times every year - you did not get this from the tanning bed it just became noticable and active due to tanning. I dont mean to talk down or anything but poeple tend not to believe this but it is true.

I had an employee who developed this fungus. I told her to use Selsun Blue but she decided to trust her doctor and bought the expensive ointment. She had a very severe reaction to the ointment. So then she used the Selsun Blue with no problem and cleared up the fungus.

Yes, sounds like SunSpots to me... (Medical term- Tinea Versacolor)

It creeps people out when I tell them that SunSpots is actually a fungus. Usually, it's most common with people who have long hair. When they don't dry their hair completely, it makes it easy for the fungus to grow, and it spreads to the skin.

There's a good product by Norvell called Halt that effectively clears it up. But Jo and Top250Tans are correct- SelsonBlue or Head&Shoulders will also clear it up. Halt is a bit easier on the skin, but it's a little more expensive (I think it retails at $14 for a 4oz bottle).

If it's not SunSpots, sounds like it could be Vitiligo (or however it's spelled). Vitiligo is a pigment 'disorder', where the melanocytes in the skin are unable to produce melanin efficiently.

I'd assume it's SunSpots, since it's in an area that a fungus could grow happily. If it doesn't respond to SunSpot treatment, I'd see a dermatologist if it bothers you.

Good Luck!
