One of my best employee's I had to let go for theft. She was filling sample cups using full lotion bottles that are on display to be sold as full bottles and she was charging
$3 per cup and pocketing, what a B?*&H.
If it wasn't for my wifes idea to install video I never would have known.
Just thought of making other salons aware.

Sorry to hear that I had a theft problem here. Was a relative, She was taking money for tans and pocketing it after running a total on the tans.( marking down B1 as for one tan) At the end of the night she would pocket all remaing money. That wasn't good enough then she start using other peoples names and packages to give free tans. ( after I got the system hooked up correctly. I did'nt want to believe she was doing it until some of the customers were telling me how she was doing it. Yes, more than one customer. She had stolen about $20,000.00 from me in about a 4 month period and our first year being opened.

We had a problem in another business with a relative who we were trying to help who helped self to cash and we learned the hard way. Guess it is best to leave family out of biz.

I am an employee and I was about to sell this woman a bottle of DS Bronze Bondage, and when I took it out of the case, I thought it felt a little "light" as far as weight went, so I picked up another bottle and it was MUCH heavier.

basically, some of the girls I work with are taking shots out of the same bottle and either using it themselves or selling it for pocket money....so as a result, we have a half-empty bottle of Bronze Bondage that we cannot sell. I told the manager about it and she was fuming.

The only thing that comforts me when it comes to employees stealing is that they will get caught. Especially with something as easy to fumble as giving lotion samples out....think about it, if they are portioning out your sample bottles and pocketing the cash, eventually a customer is going to want lotion when that particular employee is not there and they will ask you or another employee for it.....employee doing wrong is caught red handed b/c all it would take is your customer saying "oh, I buy a sample from _____ for $3 everytime I tan."

I am having a problem too. Everyday I have to come in and count everything I own. Still I find something gone. Yesterday it was a teethwhiting kit. We have everything locked up cause of this. So it must be someone with a key. I have a cam at home that is going in this weekend.

I am habing a real problem with stealing, friends tanning for free and just talking on the phone to friends. It always seems to make it back to me through the grapevine, but how should I handle this and what should I do?

Jillybean, invest in a security camera!!! Trust me it saves you thousands of dollars, wether it be clients or employees stealing, plus it can tell you who slacks and who gets their work done. My boss told me ever since the cameras have gone up, he sleeps jsut a little better.
